Sometimes when I'm bored I drum with one arm, and I was wondering. Does that improve anything, will it help you out at all. It sounds like a dumb question but.
Only thing I could see it improving is speed and maybe limb independence? (If that makes any sense)...
I'm a novice drummer, so, i don't know much as you can tell.
I don't know about improvement so much, but I've been exploring this lately so I can play keys with my left hand. It definitely makes you think about your approach and dexterity as it relates to one arm, but I haven't really noticed it helping my 'two-armed' drumming.
There's a guy with a broken arm on youtube ripping a pretty nice one-armed session.
Yes it's beneficial if you lose one stick or something goes wrong with, for example, hihats. Then while fixing the problem, you can keep the beat going. It also helps when you switch from brushes to sticks.

If you play one handed with your weaker hand, it would probably improve it.

Def Leppard anybody? I guess that if you get into a car accident and lose an arm you can continue drumming afterwords.
THe only times i drum with one arm are while fixing something on my kit, changing sticks or brushes or whatever, or to play keys with my left hand, all of which have been previously mentioned. I really don't think it will help with limb independence at all since the whole point of limb independence is to be able to use each of your limbs serperately and simultaneously. And It won't help increase your speed anywhere near as much as plain old pad practice.
