Ahead stick size?

I'm currently in the market for a pair of Ahead sticks but not sure of the needed size. For over three decades I have been using Pro Mark Japanese oak 727. My question is what size would the Ahead sticks need too be so that it would be the same size as my old 727?

Try the new 5AB Hybrids. They seem to feel closer to wood than any other model.

The hybrid 5A looks good but the 7A looks more the same size as my trusty Pro mark 727's. Thanks for the info.

Ah, 727... For some reason I had 747 stuck in my head. I would try the 7A or 5A, both are the same stick, the 7A's a little shorter.

i was considering buying a pair cause i break a bunch of sticks. How do cymbals hold up against these? (I consider myself to be an average hitter, meaning i don't hit the cymbals too hard)

There's good threads on Aheads if you 'search' Ahead sticks.



They may turn out to be 'not all that' if you pull rim shots on the snare/toms and side-swipe your cymbal edges (especially the HH).

The plastic covers "breakdown" and Ahead "goes Ahead and gives it to you". They litterlly get to a point where the cover material becomes gooey and does a 'ambient tempture melt' on you. Almost (dare I suggest) like the material has a planned-obsolecence.

When the covers are cut/opened, cymbals can become exposed to the aluminum core of the stick, then its either the core, or your cymbals 'eating it' on the metal to metal contact factor. At this point if your lucky, you' ll pull a rim shot and break the core and never use Aheads again.

You can't just buy 'one' stick. So do the math for a pair and a back-up pair. Cover life varies, but replacement costs could easily rival or exceede the cost of using wood sticks.
