Heres my little bop setup, 16X16 BD, 10X8 Tom, 13X6 Snare(also a 14X5 for different situations) just an update of my previous "My kit" thread.

Cymbals are:

20" Bosphorus Traditional ride
14" K Hats

Minimal but fun as hell, and sorry for the bad quality my digital camera was dead and all i had was my phone.

Sweet, I had a similar setup going before I assembled my new drums (which by the way I need to post some pictures of):

It's fun for sure, and of course everyone knows the "less is more" approach can spur your creativity. Well, some say it's debatable. Either way, are you using a bass drum riser? I was using a shoe box, which worked well enough.

Nope no riser here, just used the spurs from my kick and put a basket with a shirt on it to hold the front up, actually very sturdy and a perfect fit, fits nice and snug between the lug spacing.

Well it looks like his floor tom is, well, otherwise occupied being a bass drum.

Very cool! I've just finished custom building my own personal bop set. I'll post pics when I get my camera back.

Well I do have a 12X8 tom I could use as a floor but I'm not so sure it would work out toooo well in the low end dept.

BTW. Crlujan I love that gretsch kick man I'de kill for it, is it a 18" kick or a 16" floor with wood hoops?

It's a 13x16 shell with wood hoops.

It seems like there's been a rash of these little kits on Drummer World lately. I love playing on such a small set-up. But, like I said before, for some reason it really turns others off.

Those set-ups are so much fun!
How have you tuned the 16" bass drum? I don`t see any muffling...did you go for a very resonant and open sound?

Tuned nice and open no muffling no holes, tuned up for a jazz setting nice and warm but still tuned tight.

Wow, I`m slobbering. I wish I could get that sound with my 22x18" Tama Superstar Bass drum. Do you have any chance to record a little sound clip?

Oh, I`ll wait! ;-) No problem...but still I`d be really looking forward to a clip of course.

I love it. Played a sonor jungle 16" bass once & fell in love.. bop kit...someday...sigh

Same with me, I first tried one in a near shop and I was impressed by it`s incredibly open and warm tone. Still it has a good punch when tuned low, what do you think Jay?
I was kinda surprised that such a small bass drum could sound that fat actually...

I think the 16 works perfect for a jazz or even a funky setting, this thing is nice and punchy with plenty of low end, and im using stock reso and remo coated ambassador, im sure if I threw another coated on the batter(im using stock reso as batter :-\) it would be even better.

I got the idea of using a 16 after I had told my teacher " I want to get me an 18" he told me "You got a 16 floor use that it will be just fine"
so I tried it and im NOT disappointed at all.

You should make your own! Yamaha's versions are overpriced and built for just a certain size of person, besides not necessarily being the best quality parts or being exactly what you want. I built a kit for right around $2000 which I find to be far, far superior to HipGigs that I've played (or rather tried to play) in the past.

Just something to think about.
