How does one acquire a mesh head for a 24" bass drum? Has anyone DIY'd one of these?

Evans retro screen heads.

They are sort of mesh heads, but they have sound.

Thank you so much. I had thought about purchasing screen door material and making my own as well. I'd rather have a professional handle it though if at all possible.

Your local music shop didn't have them or couldn't order them? I know I could get a 24" mesh head from my local shop. I don't remember the brand though.

There are two reasons to use mesh heads. If used on the batter side, it considerably lowers the volume (good for people who like acoustic kits but need to stay quiet). For people who don't like to use reso heads, keeping a mesh head on the reso side will protect the bearing edges.
