Any real difference between Remo ambassador and Evans G1?

I am going to replace the stock head on my 12" Black Panther. All my toms have Evans heads, which I am pleased with, but I am always hearing how good snare drums sound with the Remo Ambassadors. Is there really any measurable difference or does it just come down to personal preference?

Ambassadors are usually great heads. However, the last 2 remo heads I bought were bad. I have never had that problem with Evans. Personally, I'd take a G1 over any remo head. The difference in sound is negligible.

There is a significant difference in sound. Why not try both? That's the only way for you to decide what you prefer.

And btw, I've used coated ambassadors for decades without problems.

Personally, I think there's a difference between the sound of Evans G1 and Remo Ambassadors.

For me, on my drums, the Evans has a slightly softer attack sound, and a lower overall pitch.
Top and bottom G1 has lots of mid range/lows sounds without the crisp top end.

Remo heads are (for me) crisper sounding.

Brighter overall at higher tensions, and just as fat & deep as the Evans on larger drums or with lower tension.

Remo uses a White Mylar film under the coating (for Ambassadors) & Evans uses a clear film under the coating for ALL their heads (other than a couple special types).

I don't think Evans uses "Mylar", but I'm not positive about that.

I like the durability of both brands, and both tune up easily (and stay there) for me too.

I use Ambassadors because I just like their sound better.

Ambassadors don't dent on me at all, and I don't ever have a problem with the coating coming off--but I know a lot of people have had problems with Remo coating.

Just seems weird that people have problems, but I never have had it....I'm glad, it's just strange.

Evans coating seems pretty easy to scratch , but the coating on the heads I used never came off in the playing area, like it "chipped off" from the sticks.

Evans used to have the Uno58 which was great head.

Uno58's had White film under the coating.

I really liked those, but they discontinued them a couple years ago.

Evans rolls it on.

I like Remo on my toms because they sound a lot more warmer to me.
I use Evans on my snare because i love their genra dry head.
