I'm doing my third show with the Kansas City Repertory Theatre. It's called "A Marvelous Party", a revue featuring the work of Sir Noel Coward.

Basic four-banger set up, plus some toys, shots of the stage, the house, and me in my first act costume :P

Thats a great looking kit. How does your snare sound with a wood batter hoop and metal snare side hoop? I have been thinking about doing that for a while.

Yeah, I still have the green set, this one was rented by the theatre from a friend of mine. I didn't want to use my kit for the show because I still need it for some other stuff and the sound people would murder me if I wanted to set up and tear down before and after shows.

The wood hoop on top sounds great, since it's a deep shell (14 X 7) you get a lot of that woody resonance to begin with. I think it looks a little goofy, but whatever. I have it tuned pretty low for this show, it's got a great old-school sound, almost like a field drum.

Cymbal specs (all Bosphorus, of course) are:
22" Antique ride
16" Traditional crash
14" Traditional hats
8" Traditional splash

And that's a 22" Wuhan Wind Gong leaning against the floor tom. I was going to hang it on its own stand until I found out I only had to hit it once during the whole show. It's during the song "Mad Dogs and Englishmen"--the guy says "...in Hong Kong, they strike a gong..." and I just pick the thing up, whack it a good one and put it back down. Great fun.

Dapper looking gent there and I have to say, intersting mic placement by the floor tom. What was the purpose of that particular place?

That mic is actually for the upright bass that stands next to me, it's a little further away from the kit than it looks.

Are these cymbals yours? I didn`t know you even own a crash cymbal!

What kind of music do you play there? Can I listen to samples anywhere...or to similar tunes? I can`t really imagine what you play there...

Yeah, I got the crash a few months ago for the rock show I did over New Year's. It's killin', everything I love about the Sabian HH series and Zildjian K Custom Dark Series, but, ya know, a Bosphorus, so way better. ;)

The music is old school show music, mostly from the 1920's to the 1940's. Some Vaudeville type stuff, some nice pretty lovey-dovey ballads, a few swing tunes, etc. If you look for Noel Coward on google or wickipedia or youtube, you'll smell what I'm cookin'.

Great going Zack! What's that big stapler thingee on the stand?

btw - I'll echo Trip, and say I left the brushes video till just now and I say again, you are truly gifted, not just in the art of drumming, but the more difficult art of communication. Both the latin & brush videos are some of the best I've seen in terms of real content. You definitely have a way with it, and I hope for the sake of the larger drum community, you make many more of them.
