Very Cool :D One question though, is it wise to use a heavy ride in a jazz setting? hmmm... Just seems wrong to me. I'd have thought a light , crashable ride would do the trick, or medium heavy though at least... :)

buy for for me and your wish is my command!!!! lololol...You have to back off this ride a little, but I have played in numerous jazz situations and it has never been an issue. I would love one of the Armand series 20 inch rides, they are sweet played one just the other day nice stick definition real light sound thing is awesome.

sounds real cool I have an EC2 on the batter side and the other is a stock dw bottom head. Its real ringy and has a surprising amount of low end. I think its do to the vertical grain that dw puts in there bigger shells. They say that on there website at least. I got the drum lift a few weeks ago so I figures I would try the floor., It is a lot of fun!

Nice looking set up! Although, I've found the 9000 bass drum pedal (hi-hat is fine) to be too stiff even at the lowest tension point to feather with.

really? Maybe it was the beater the stock beaters are real heavy. I find that these are the most sensitive pedals I have ever played.
But that just goes to show you everyone is different and everyone has their own preference. You may feel one thing and I feel it totally different. late

Is that the 9000 series DW drum lift? If it is, how do you like it?

it is and I absolutely love it. The floor tom fits in nice and snug because you can keep tweaking it until you feel it is secure enough. I can real lay into the floor tom and the thing is a rock. I would video it but I only have my phone and the vids come out very poorly. (I get frowned upon in the forum lol) But it was a really cool investment that I think can be very versatile.

if you can just mount the ride off the extra floor tom leg clamp, THEN you'd have an ultra portable kit :)

awesome same setup as my jazz kit, except i use sonor 2005 birch 16x16(home diy stand) and a black panther blond biedseye maple snare 13x6.5. 14 K Hats and 20 trad bosphorus ride. post some clips with yours and ill try to do the same, ill post pics tomorrow or tonight
i also wanna see if its possible to use a dw L arm cymbal stand to mount a ride.
ive also seen the pearl floor tom conversion set, i think im going to pick one up

thats the mount itself, couldn't mount anything on the top of thyis I think it would take it off the stand. BUT the R-class dunnet floortom converter has a tom mount coverter with it as well. thing is real cool.

I guess I could do this with my Gretsch 18" floor but I just can't deal with such a high pitched bass sound. I would love the ease of transport compared to my 22" or 26" though.

mikeo,
I play a K Heavy as my main ride - not my favorite for a jazz cymbal or for an "all-purpose" - but frankly, it can do it - for a heavy cymbal it's pretty musical. For quieter stuff I'll go to my 18" crash and do a ride pattern on that. After all - there are no rules, are there?

exactly!! I'll use some lighter sticks in a jazz situation. Not that I use really large sticks anyway (9A Regal tip-wood) but ya the ride will do the job. I really want one of those Armand Zildjian series rides. They are so sweet perfect for jazz. I play mostly groove oriented music now so this fits the bill perfect. I normally use a bigger bass as well (22x18) but I wanted to mess around with the drum lifter so came up with this concoction. Lat

the Armand rides are nice, I have the Sweet Ride and I thought it was the best Zildjian made when I got it, now they have those new ones. I'd like the 20" version myself.
Finally got around to taking pic of my little bop setup, I also play a 22" normally for my heavyier stuff.
Note: Ignore the moongel on the hats, I just was swapping snares and left it on them by accident lol.
