Your preference: Using one foot to blast 16ths, or splitting 16ths between both feet?

Personally, I've only recently veered towards single-footing my blasts, as I always get confused by the difference in sound with both feet playing 16ths. I hope to eventually reach 120BPM with this method.

How about you guys?

i generally do it with one foot, when i play it with doubles i usually tend to screw it up somehow, i need to work on it quite a bit, and i am doing so at the moment.

Yeah, same problem I have. When I use both feet, it generally sounds like utter chaos, and not in a good way.

When I first read up on the whole "1 foot is better than 2" debate, I thought it was a load of bulls**t, but now I'm starting to understand where they're coming from. Not that there's a right and wrong way of doing it, as so many (usu. unintentionally) make it out to be, but there are advantages to either side, and consistency is greater with 1-footed blasts.

1 foot. I'm not particularly consistent but last time I was practicing blasts I was hitting the 180s.

I've been experimenting with 32nd notes while blasting (basically playing doubles with my feet) and it's still in the chaotic stage, but find what you think works / sounds the best and take the internet's $.02 for what it's worth. Derek Roddy has a great book on blasting technique and there is a lot of variety with both your hands and feet.

Is that the evolution of blast beats? I've been thinking about that for a while, is it worth it? Personally I use a mixture of single and double pedal blasting, I use single pedal alot of the time, but I switch to both pedals when I go at higher speeds (220bpm/8ths + ) cause my right foot can't go quite as fast as either of my hands.

That's the book. It's helped me out by just giving me ideas. This is the first project I've played in where blasting was a part of the music, so it's helped me alot. The cd moves pretty quickly, but it's good to listen to how the notation should sound. Like any reference material, you take from it what you want. It's wasn't too expensive and for me if it gives me only a couple more options or beats to work out it's worth it. Plus, playing with both feet opens up different patterns as well, i.e. doubles with the right foot and singles with the left in a triplet type of feel. Or, doubles with the right, and singles alternating between the kick and high hat. I'm really sloppy with this at the moment as well.

I can play 240 bpm with one foot with a Duallist. At that speed, you really need good right foot skills and a delicate touch because you are balancing the rebound and spring tension to keep the notes evenly spaced and sounded. However, if you have a well-trained right foot, you should be able to do it with a little practice. I can even blast out 32nds in bursts, but playing in dual-beater mode means you have twice the spring resistance to overcome.

Your right foot is capable of a lot of things if you have the particular instrument/hardware to unlock it.

Yeah, I can blast 32nds at 120BPM single-footed in bursts as well, but ONLY in bursts.

I can do both but I play one footed out of principle. Actually, it's because it lets me splash the hi-hat with my left foot which is something I do a lot. Also because I feel I should always be improving myself, I'll one foot with the left foot for some songs. I can hit 200bpm on an average day and as high as 240 every now and then. Usually anywhere in between.

Take care

It all depends on the tempo with me. Usually I do 16th blasts at like 180-200 with two feet. But like 140 and under I use one foot. Like with job for a cowboy I use two feet because the blasts are usually longer. But when I do short Chimaira blasts and SYL I use one feet. I found it easy to do one footed blasts because I am native to dc. We have our own style of music called gogo which is like a combination of funk, rap, and hip-hop. The main gogo beat contains basically consecutive 8th notes on the bass but at like speeds of 160 and up. This is why blasts are easy on the feet with me. Now if only I could switch up and sometimes use my left foot.

i can blast at 220 bpm one footed and about 240 bpm two footed,i agree one footed blasting lets you do other things with your free foot. but for me when not using a triggered bass i find double foot is better you can really stomp and make that blast sound that much more powerful, or just china blast mmmmmm china blast:)
