Hey there!
The Weaker Side!

It just arrived Friday and only yesterday that I started the routine just like the book recommends practicing each page per week, 1 min each exercise so that it will be a total of 30 minutes. So I started practicing yesterday with my hands on the pad using free-strokes at 70 bpm and found the exercises so cool and yet challenging ;) But I have questions about the routines (#1, #2 and #3). So since I've started today using the routine #1. I'd like to ask how to practice the routine #2 and #3.

So since I'm going to practice each page of the book for 7 days and then on the next week change the page. I'd like to ask if practicing all the routines referred on your book this way would be OK:

Day 1 Day2 Day3 Day 4 Day5 Day6 Day7 ---> days per week

#1 #2 #3 #1 #2 #3 #3 ---> Selected routine for the practice session

Hope to hear from you soon!

P.S: just one more question... Would it be ok to practice the foot exercises without pedals? or would it be better to practise on the pedals...

THE BOOK RULES!!

For those interested in making their weaker side as good as the strong side (Hands and feet) You guys HAVE TO GET THIS BOOK!!

IT'S EXCLENT!

Huge thumbs up for Dom Famularo and Stephane Chaberland

This is a great book!!! I have been working on simular exercises I got from Dom many years ago. This book puts all of them in one place and really makes a difference in your hands and feet. Free Strokes rule!! lol

John,
How much time do you recommend spending with this book on a given day?

I've been doing about fifteen each, feet and hands, but will work up to 30 when I can do both together, which I have been doing some days though my feet are not as fast as hands.

I just started it yesterday (I was at Dom's Saturday and got the book from him there).

I play the foot part using heel down on the floor. It really burns and is very challenging.

I am doing the hand part at 100 and the foot part at 60. I have not yet tried the two together although it sounds interesting.

Delta, Dom recommends 60 miutes a day, and more if you do the optional #3 (hands and feet together.

Then I can practice heel down on the floor :Dcool! thanks dr Power Stroke...
As for the 60 mins a day... well I don't have the discipline to practice 60 mins per day, I can only practice 30 mins which I find myself lucky to practice for 30 mins ( just the pratice routine for building strength and balance using The Weaker Side ). So my question is, can I practise on one day only hands, the next one only feet, and the other next one feet and hands, and so on and so for...

Let me know something ;)
thanks guys! and yes it is a COOL book, I'm loving it!

Hey there again! just to say that after going to the cinema to see Sweeny Todd, with my girlfriend, when I went home I tried to practice the Weaker Side Book since it's my second day, I would try and practice routine #2 which is using feet only with heels down.
The thing is that I was trying to practice it without my double-pedal and I couldn't make it to the end of the second exercise on page 1. I felt so much burning at the beginning and when I came to exercise 2 I almost felt tension. So I stopped immediately and Tomorrow I'll practice routine #2 again but with my double-pedal.

Now the thing about practicing with your feet on the floor after watching a trailer from Tim Waterson's DVD is that when you practice your feet on the floor, you're only working on the upstroke...

So I won't make the same mistake again and tomorrow I'll try again!

Cheers! GREAT BOOK!

Heretic, Dom suggests both hands and fet every day. That is the way the book is designed and I suggest you tke Dom's words that that is how it works most effectively.

So if you have 30 minutes, do 30 seconds per exercise, for hands: 15 minutes, and feet: 15 minutes. I would say forget about hands and feet together for now until you have more time.

About the discipline: of course you have the discipline to practice 1 hour a day. You just don't really want it bad enough. And that's fine. Everybody has discipline, but not everybody wants the same thing.

I have been doing hands and feet daily. which is recommended. So even if you can only do 7 minutes each, then that's what you do for that day. I've been using it for about two months and have already seen improvement. Some day I spend fifteen minutes with the book, others 30 minutes.

I would be careful not to over do it. Listen to your body and ease into a full routine. If your goal is to get to fifteen: hands fifteen: feet and then thirty together, I think it may take a few months.

also, I think Tim Watersn's criticism of the heel down position is when you are practicing on the floor. If you are using a pedal you are getting resistance on the way up, and resistsance from the spring of the pedal on the way down. Anyway, you can practice is both ways.
