Very nice. They are beautiful. With the May Micing do you need a ported head?

No, that's the kind of the reason you get may miking, so you don't have to stick a mic in it everynight, it's already in there.

I'd say the port is there probably for projection. If he's recording in a studio there's probably a room mic or two.

How big a sound do you get out of those short stacks? I saw Incubus last weekend and Jose had short stack toms and they sounded huge.

http://www.dwdrums.com/may/ It is an internal miking system with a XLR . I use a akg d112, and find it very useful.

And yes, you can probably order these sizes from many other companies today, tama starclassic maple is one of them.Pork pie is another one. It took some time for me to find the best interval between them, and i tend to tune these drums much higher than my previous. they sound beautiful, and sing!

Yes, pretty much any high-end drums can be ordered in any size as well as custom drums as you might have guessed. Sadly though i don't think these sizes are too easy to come by in cheaper drums apart from maybe the TAMA superstar hyperdrive which also has very shallow toms.

I just love the broken glass finish. It really is beautful. Great setup and top notch cymbals complement nicely.

Interesting mish mash of heads though. Are you in the process of changing them or just like the different characteristics of each head on a particular drum?

oh yeah that's intresting, my snare and floor tom have coated heads and rack toms don't. That's just what the floor tom came with though. I want to get a clear head for it 'cos it's a premier resonator and i want to show off the lack of inside screws :p
