This is an exercise that i wrote for practicing stick control when playing Swiss Triplets and Flam Taps.

The only drawback to this exercise is you can't really practice it to a metrenome since it changes meter so frequently

Instead of writing "F" for flams, you ought to put the lead hand (e.g. RRL for right hand leading swiss triplets). In this case we know it's about swiss triplets, so we can sort of deduce from the next note, but either way I find it easier to read if it's only Rs and Ls.

He is using the same method for notating flams as Stone uses in Stick Control. The F stands for a right hand flam. The F with a circle around it is a left hand flam.

yah jeff has got it, that's exactly where i'm taking that from.

I feel like just using Rs and Ls isn't specific enough.

I challenge everybody to learn this exercise then record themselves playing it. THere's some pretty tricky stuff in there and i'd like to see if anyone else can play it.

I'm not gonna lie, even I have some trouble playing the entire exercise cleanly.

Nice ideas, some tricky stuff indeed. I`ll have fun with it definitly...also I think it`s nicely written down actually. =)

I`d also take some photos of my ideas if I currently got the good camera. I`ll try.

Thanks, some cool ideas.

Thanks man, but if you really want a challenge, play it on your kit with sweeps from the toms to the snare on the swiss triplets. I just started playing with this and I'm thinking about adding some of the ideas to my solo's and fills. There isn't much use for the oddtime groupings in straight rock, but in some of the wierder out there stuff I play, i can definately see some applications.

p.s. I use moller strokes when I play this exercise.

Fun fun!

Been playing it. Trying to lock it in with a metronome, but unluckily my metronome can't handle bars of 18/16 followed by 7/16...

So I set it just playing quarters, with no 1 specified. Every couple of bars will, line up with the click...
