i'm 19, and i currently live on the san francisco peninsula. i've been playing drums for 6-7 years, but i've been slacking the past year and a half. i am going to take a semester off of school in order to get back in touch with my playing. i want to take some lessons to kind of "cure" my playing and help me undevelop any bad habits that i've developed. (samples of my playing can be heard at www.myspace.com/huntersonmyspace)
i mainly play progressive rock, jazz, and funk. i've taken lessons from danny descalzo and al coster, both out of San Mateo, CA. i also frequent every steve smith workshop and concert that i can, including going to study at the RHYTHMS Seminar in germany every 2 years.
i mainly want to work on stick control (via the moeller technique and/or "french" grip), hi-hat independence, overall drumset maneuverability, speed control, and better ways to analyze songs to fit grooves interesting grooves to them.
i've searched for some teachers on craigslist, but have not found anything very promising.
if anybody knows about any good or excellent teachers in the sf bay area, please let me know.
thanks.

Have you reached out to the local drum shops? I know that both Drum World in San Mateo and the San Jose Pro Drum shop offer lessons. You can check out their roster of teachers on their websites.

T Moran. ( Walnut Creek, Antioch. Google him, He will also come to you). Eric Thompson is good. John Xepoleos (Pleasant Hill). Peter Booras in Redwood City. I think he still teaches at Gelb Music.

My teacher is Jeff Marrs. He's in Concord. He's plays with the Marcus Shelby Orchestra, Wil Blades, Mitch Marcus...

San Jose Pro Drum has Jason Wall, he's an awesome teacher, only worked with him a bit but he's a great player and communicator. Also my teacher teaches in marin if you're willing to commute. Jimmy Sage-1-415-488-4479. Amazing teacher in my opinion!(wonder if I'm biased, let's see, 8 years now? yeah.)

thanks for the tips. i recently checked out bob danielson (san francisco), took his free preliminary lesson. i liked him alot, but i'm still going to try some people out.
concord, pleasant hill, and marin are really long commutes for me. i'll check out the guy at gelb in redwood city. i totally forgot that they have that little music school behind the shop.
