Hi!
Just completed this mini-drum project a week ago.Mainly use it for Light Jazz & Unplug Gigs!
10"drum head attached on self-made Box-Kick.
8"head attached to Roto/self-made wood-base.(Snare)There's a 1"(cut)wire snare screw on the plywood-base and bent it so that it touched the drum head.
6"head as tom.
6"(michinery cut)mini hat.
10" splash cymbal
Tama pedal,pearl tom holder,pearl clamp,tama cymbal clamp& holder.

Get a business loan, set up a factory and start making these. This is a very significant contribution to drum design. Seriously.

I'd like to hear it also. I don't imagine it would sound like a typical drum set, but it would sound familiar enough to work in just about any musical context.

I do a lot of metalwork and hardware tinkering and I appreciate how well constructed this appears to be. The finish on the boxes, the design of the drums, the modifications to the hardware - clearly a lot of thought and talent went into this. Very well executed.

The bass drum is essentially a carrying case for the hardware and the rest of the drums. Seems very handy and still sounds pretty good despite its looks. Too bad Kumu doesn't build these anymore, since they'd definitely have a market.

I would love to find someone who collects compact sets (that Kumu, Hipgig, Penguin, Arbiter Flats, cocktails, etc.). So many drum collections are just ho-hum vintage stuff. I find compact sets fascinating and ingenious and I think they would be a neat niche for collecting.

This also raises the issue of shell shape. What sound qualities does a cylinder confer? How about a box? Some of the best acoustic spaces ever made are boxes (i.e., concert halls) yet drums are still cylinders. What do the Octaroon drums sound like? Certainly a box shape is more practical and many great drums like cajones are boxes.

DMC... If I had the $$$ I would be that exact person. I've owned 2 Sonor Jungle kits, The Yamaha Rick Marotta, Al Foster and the Cocktail kit as well as the 16" bass drum Gretsch Catalina Club model all at seperate times.

I believe it. You have a taste for quality, exotic stuff.

You could be a "serial collector," owning each of those things in turn. Owning them all at once would take lots of room and money and maybe not be too practical. But it would look hell of cool!

Thanks!the kick pedal bounce "Normal" to me.Because there's a way to do it when you use smaller drum for bass.Normally The feel for "Smaller kick" is fast,and need sometimes to adjust the playing.I do find a way to solve this problem.I just use a cleaning cloth with masking tape and attached it on the drum head.

Thanks for your kind words!Ya!I like to design/make compact drum set so that(1)easy for me to carry & fit in at the back of my car(2)room space.I like to use my spare time for drum design/making.but mainly is for fun/hobby!If you have the spare time,tools and new/use drum hardware.can always try out!

Thanks!well!you may don't believe if I tell you.when I change a new wooden wall for my room.I have this left over plywood plus the "Wrap".So use my spare time to make this little drum.

Haha!sorry for the carpet!Pedal response is normal to me.(there's a way to do it!)It sound good on light Jazz,Unplug kind of music.Normally I perfrom with either a Finger-stye guitar player(Bosa,waltz,swing etc!)or a 3 pcs band (keyboard,bass & drum).I do find it easy to control when playing at the Hotel lounge,dinner party! or jamming with other band in the small room!

Well!you won't get a big-volume like a normal drum-set! The snare sound like SONOR Junge-snare or those mini 8" snare drum(depend how you tune it!).I do draw out alot of strange/odd drum design.But the main idea still:compact,light and the most important "Playable".when I started to build drum as hobby.I do failed many time,but each time I do learn something to improve my skill!Once you can do it.It will bring alot of fun!

With the help from my (wood-work) old friend(Inorder to glue the plywood(3 layers)I need another person to help me to press & roll the wood.)The big one is 12x31(main drum)8x5(small tom).The second one 10x26(main drum)8x4(tom).The Box shape is a bit easy to build.The Black one is "Vari-pitch"cocktail drum.I attached a 10"Roto on top as "Snare".so that I can change the pitch just by turning the roto!.If you seriously want to go into cocktail drum.I recommand you go to:

biz to the ump nice stuff. Just when you think you have seen it all. Those cocktail sets are real cool creative and look like fun to play. My boss had an old Slinderland one that he just sold. from like the 50's in white marine pearl . it was neat.
