I was wondering if there is some rule against double bass on an 18" bass drum. Is this an ok thing to do or would it just be un-ethical? I'd just like to know what you guys think.

I like it
"Do whatever you want, but don't hurt yourself."
if somebody wrote a rule book on drumming...life would be boring!

Justin Foley - Drummer of Killswitch Engage.
He first joined the band with a 22" bass drum. And it shrunk. He still uses a double bass pedal on it and it sounds incredibly punchey!

Tim Alexander does. I think he might use an 18" on his right foot and a 20" on his left, but there is certainly an 18" involved in his double work.

There are no rules to drumming, in my eyes

Dave Mclain (Machine Head) uses two 20x20 basses, and those are like cannons. I'de imagine 18 would be even more punchy. What would you be looking into? 18x18? 18x16?
It would be most punchy if you got an 18x14, two of those and you'd knock the crowd over!
