I'm in the market for a new snare. I'm looking for a used (e-bay) Ludwig Metal snare. I'm thinking about a brass shell Supraphonic? Any recommendations would be great. I want a sound of= cutting, loud, crack and sensitivity.

My thoughts exactly!
Occasionally you will find one that so flaking and pitted really bad for about $150.00.

My main snare is a Pearl brass Free Floating 6.5x14. It is amazing. Deep, crack and sensitivity. I used to have band guys and club/bar sound people tell me it was to loud. I had to muffle it sometimes : ^ ( Brand new they are about $350. On youtube check out Gregg Bissonette w/the Buddy Rich band. Its the same snare w/an Emperor head. It sounds great to me.

I have a Pearl Sensitone Custom-Alloy brass shell. I don't use it anymore, but it didn't cost as much as $500, and it's a really good sounding snare drum. It speaks well, good rim shots, good dynamics, very responsive. I've even recorded with it. I don't know if they make them anymore though.
It seems that for $500 you'd be able to get a good new metal snare drum.

You should be able to get a new Black Beauty for around $500.
Columbus Pro Percussion, or that place that starts with a "P"...dang what's the name of that place!
Peterson's..... Pearson's..... something like that... they had a Sabian Vault tour in 2005...
Nice shop, lots of snares and a good staff.
Columbus Pro is a great shop too.
Anyhow, I would think you could get a new BB for 500 bucks, and getting one from a shop is better than going eBay IMO.
You'll get service from a shop, and you'll keep people employed.
Support your area drum shops!

Do take note of this post. $500 is a hi- end snare. $150-200 will buy you lots of very decent snares.
However, if you're going to spend $500 on a snare, please dont call it budget.. It makes me feel poor, and my $250 Chad Smith feels really lousy.

CS's are that much now?
Wow, well, it's still worth it for that snare. I dig it.
Yeah, Aydee is right, $500 can get you a great high end snare.
ALL of my snares--3 BB's, a Hammered Chrome, a Classic Maple, a custom 8X14, and a Black Dawg 5x14--great snare BTW (not to forget the good 'ol Acrolite)--have been under $500, and some way under.
I got sweet deals on a couple, but I'd think a BB would only run a little above $500 for a 6.5.
The ('07) Classic Maple 6.5 (w/tubes & Millennium strainer up-charges) only ran me around $349 (if I remember right--no more than that anyway) and it's a great sounding drum.
The shop I go to right now has a new Ludwig 5x14 BB with tube lugs priced at $499 -- and tube lugs add about $25 or 30 over the standard Imperial lugs.
Geeze, my Bronze 6.5 BB in 1989 only cost (with the UFO hoops--remember those 800 lb. each things!) $355....man....time raises prices...
I was looking into a Ludwig 6.5 Hammered Bronze (w/tubes & Millennium up-charges) and it was only $450.
I said I was for sure gonna buy it, but I changed my mind...went into another direction. And, I just can't stop playing the BB's....yeah, it's a real burden, but I can tough it out :P
