Someone donated my school a wine red tama imperial star that came with menil's beginner cymbals.

The hard that came with this set is great. Very sturdy and very easy to adjust.
The snare is my favorite part of the set. I hated it at first, but then i put a new coated ambassador on it and it gives me a very dry sound. The only thing about the snare that disappointed me was the that the bearing edges of the snare had small pivots on the reso side.
The toms sound good, they don't give a very bright sound like my gretsches but because they are made of poplar they do have a deep low tone to them. With the stock heads on they are suited better in lower rock tunings. When tuned high they give off some nasty overtones.
The bass is one of my favorites too, it tuned up perfect with stock heads and nothing in the bass drum. I am getting a very open boomey sound that would please in any musical situation.
My biggest problem with the set is the floor tom...it is only 6 lugs and seems to come out of tune faster then the rest of the drums..
if you are looking for a good starter set, and are on a budget this is a great set to look at.
