Yo, long time lurker first time poster.
I purchased some Axis AL double pedals a year or so ago and have had nothing but trouble with them. Whilst fundamentally they are great pedals I feel all the configuration options just means more can go wrong. However, i'm not in much of a position to just buy another pedal yet, after having shelled out £400, even after all this time..Call me stubborn, but I wanted to give them a chance with all the good press they were getting.

The main problem is the left pedal height mechanism slips all the time. No matter how hard i tighten it, i'll play for a few minutes and bam, the footplate is touching the floor. As you can imagine this is a pain, particularly during shows. Anyway, i'd like to know if anyone has had similar problems and how they fixed them or any detailed configurations any of you guys use for the pedals, just to see if i'm doing something wrong.

I keep my pedals in good condition, service them fully about once every month or so.
If anyone could help me out at all, i'd be really grateful.

Cheers,
Null

can you identify at what point it's slipping, from the diagram below?
There is no footboard height mechanism per se- so I'm wondering what's loose.
Seems like it would have to be the two set screws on the "Number One assembly" (see the #11 arrows in the pic, but we're talking about the left side)

Either that, or the drive shaft (D) is slipping because it's round.
Do either of those look like they could be where it's slipping?

C on the left pedal mate
Variable drive lever

I have mine slid right to the bottom, Same on the right pedal however mid way through drumming after say 15-20 minutes (Not constant) the level slides to the top and hits the base plate beneath.

I'm not in a metal group or anything similar however I am partial for some occasional double's so its not as if I'm hammering at it either.

That's is very odd.

I have mine finger-tight (as tight as I could with my fingers...no wrenches or anything). They haven't budged. I keep mine a little lower than half.

Might consider, and maybe you've done this...pull the entire screw/bolt that hold the VDL in place. See meybe if there is an obstruction between it and the slide-post. That,or if the bottom surface of the bolt is not "right" and thus not making good contact with the slide-post.

Not sure what to tell you about the VDL slipping, never heard of that before.
Have you contacted Axis yet? They're very helpful, tech-wise.

One thing to consider is that the VDL is not intended to determine your footboard height.
With proper adjustment, you should have plenty of clearance at both ends of the VDL rod.
You might want to adjust your drive shaft alignment or the angle of how you attach it to the pedal assemblies- that's where you can get your pedal board up higher so that the VDL has clearance at all points. The function of the VDL is to "change the ratio of the footboard movement to the arc of the beater." It's for altering the feel of the pedal's 'throw,' so you need to be looking at other adjustment points to establish your pedal board height.
