hey guys, i've been looking around for a new set and my requirements are as follows:

1.durable/solid... not that i abuse my drums, but i'd like shells that won't warp, hardware that doesn't fall apart, etc.

2. not too fancy. i want a versatile, non-stylized set that i can tune in a variety of ways. I play every style, but mainly jazz and a little ska/reggae. However, I often work with rock, hip hop, fusion, metal, etc. artists.

3. i'd like a somewhat shallow (14-18) by 20" kick, standard-ish tom sizes, and I intend on getting a different snare.

any suggestions?

Well, depending on your budget, my first suggestions would be DW and Tama Starclassic. If you don't want to spend that much, I would recommend Gretsch Catalina or PDP and I think those new Tama Hyperdrive things are worth checking out. As I always do, I also suggest that you consider building it yourself!

pretty low. under 1000. I was also looking at Taye drums, but i'm not sure that they have everything I'm looking for.

The Renowns are a great set under the 1000 mark. You'd also get some good hi-end used Yammies for that price.

ddrum makes pretty cool kits for around $1000.00 usd or you could get into a set of Ludwig Classic Birch.
