Hey guys I'm looking to get a new snare for my kit. Right now I'm looking at the Craviotto's Birdseye 14"x5.5", 14"x6.5" Black Cherry, or the maple 14"x"6.5"... I just wanna hear your thoughts on each snare. I'm looking for a snare that has a great snap and packs a real punch to it but can also provide a good deep end.

the maple will give you a nice deep sound. especially being 6.5" deep. i would go with the maple. but that is just me, can you try some out before you make your decision?

All Craviottos sound incredible, and different Craviottos will sound... er... different. Just try each one out and choose the one you like best.

I have money to spend so i can afford a snare that is around 1200 dollars. I'm going to see if any other music stores around my state has them but the closest ones don't have any. I'm just wandering Bojangleman why would you go with the maple? I'm not saying its a bad choice but what are your thoughts on it?

I have a walnut snare and it sounds amazing. Its a 5x14 and gives an amazing snap and punch. Do you want a lot of resonance to the drum or do you want the sound to dissipate quickly? Check out www.tpdrums.com I learned all about stave drums there and i got to play a lot of the ones they made. Personally, i love the cut of a stave drum because of how well it resonates. If you email todd and tell him exactly what you want, he'll tell you what wood you should use and everything you can imagine about wood. He is an amazing woodworker. Snares go from 500-1000 dollars. I think they are the best snares out their not just for the price, but for the sound.
I think the coolest part is the customization opportunites they offer. You can get any finish, any inlay, any hardware color, and anything else that can go into or onto a drum.

I'm playing a DW Craviatto maple solid-shell, 5x14, and I love it. It WAS expensive, but it's everything I ever wanted a snare drum to be. I play jazz so I don't know how it would be for rock, but this drum CAN get loud!
