Yeah, yeah, I know. I've taken a while. I'll post more pics and a review of in a week or two. But until then...

Beeeeeeyoot!

Did it come disassembled and you have to put it together out of the box or did you just buy the shell and are hunting down the lugs and hoops on your own?

Good old NHS. I like being British occasionally.

We're not too bad. Leagues above the US. I have ambo membership ($60) and MBF healthcare, so above precedures wouldn't cost me much at all.

Rob, it's coming with 2.3mm hoops, tube lugs, and a Trick strainer & butt. The finish is only about half way there in that pic. The guy had some stuff come up (like having to move) during the building process so it's taken longer than it should, but he was cool about it so it's ok with me.

Oh my mistake I thought you already had the shell.

Can't wait to see it either way :)

Yeah, but you still have our Queen.

I don't mean it. That snare looks beautiful, I am, of course, very envious indeed!

And she has such a tremendous impact on our society... haha

You're probably not envious of my bank statement! Seriously though, the guy does some very classy work. He makes his own stave, segment, and ply drums; not just snares but full kits, as well as making them for Sleishman drums. I posted a pic on DMC's kit thread that he sent me last night of a 13x6" cooktown ironwood stave. I've never seen ironwood used for anything but solid shells so I thought it was pretty cool.
I can't wait for this thing to arrive. I've already gone out and bought new sticks, rods, extra heads, and a padded bag for it in anticipation.
I thought this was pretty cool; he sent a step by step pictorial so I could see what he did
1. matching staves
2. dry assembly
3. stave sanding
4. stave shell glue up
5. square and flatten
6. lathing the shell and bearing edges
7. polishing bearing edges
8. cutting snare beds
9. final hand sanding before painting
10. Finishing step 1 - Four coats 2K sealer inside and out

Wow, it's amazing how after the initial glue-up the shell looks like a complete mess, but eventually it turns into a work of art.

Consider yourself lucky to have such a builder willing to send you pictures! Makes you want to give it a go, doesn't it?

Crikey (to use a phrase you'd understand), that is one beautiful shell.

I want it so badly. Seeing the pics of the process makes it even more beautiful. Matching wood hoops would round that off perfectly. But I understand they'd cost about the same as the shell. Mind you, any hoops and lugs would look killer on that shell.

That is just gorgeous, love the finish, LOVE the hardware and love the fact that you made us all wait! can you give some details on those lugs, do they have names?

(are the lugs really big, or is the snare really small?)

VERY nice! I agree on the lugs..are they uber tubes or is it just the angle? :)

Wow, that drum looks perfect. I really like those chunky tube lugs and they go well with those hoops. Lucky man, you are. Now for a bass and a couple of toms to match...

I forgot to mention how good it sounds!

It is by far the most amazing snare I have ever heard and/or played. The Jarrah has a sort of fat cutting tone with a heap of body and excellent articulation. The Trick strainer is the bomb; I just spent half an hour fiddling with it. The finish is more brown than the pics show, and the images really do not do it justice. Brady, eat your heart out, this thing kicks arse!!!

It's got attack Bozzio heads on it, but I might switch out to ambassador over snare-side ambassador or G1 over hazy 200. The attack snare side head seems a little thick, almost a hazy 500 thickness. Still sounds f*ckin' amazing!!!!

I'd call having a credit card maxed out quite pricey actually hahaha
