I am looking to buy a new drumset, but do not know what kind to get. I currently have a maple Pacific drumset that sounds great. The tone out of this thing for the price is amazing, and the set sounds fine in the studio and amazing live IMO. I am looking to have a similar clean maple tone from a new drumset, but I would like it in the following sizes;
18"X20" (Virgin)Bass, 14"X14" Floor (w/ legs), 12"X8" Tom (on Stand), and and 14"X5.5" Snare. I was told at guitar center that the cheapest quality maple set I could get for the best price would be a maple Classic Ludwig. This would set me back 1,700$ they said. I am wondering if I should get a DW because I think Pacifics sound so amazing though, but Ludwigs are just cool! I am not going to buy this for a couple months because I need to save up work money, so I want this forum to help me make up my mind! My highest for the 4 Pack would be around 1,900$. Also I tune my drums high when playing rock and jazz, and also a bit lower when playing more modern rock and blues stuff.

Thanks!

You are a perfect candidate for a Gretsch Catalina set.
Check out these three:

Gruntersdad has a point, those are quality sets. The only thing I don't like about them is the hardware--kinda flimsy. I would recommend DW or Tama Starclassic--you really can't go wrong.

Or build your own--you could TOTALLY do it for your price range.

Highest as $1900? Gretsch Renown maple! It's better than the Catalina, and at a better price than other kits in its league (Pearl MCX). Or you could go scour for a good deal on a 4 piece starclassic maple (great drums!). You'd be really lucky to get a 4 piece DW for less than $1900. That's all I can think of right now...

That's funny, Guitar Center guy is pitching Ludwig (which they don't carry anymore) over Pearl Masters and Gretsch Renown, and Ddrum. Certainly can't go wrong with a Ludwig kit. I'd look into the Peace Paragon kit also. Tama, Yamaha and DW are probably gonna be out of your price range.
