I'm wanting to buy a yamaha maple but don't have the funds right now and am thinking of buying a yamaha tour custom. What is the overall opinion of the drums

Well the Tour Custom is identical to the Stage Custom except for the Wood. The Tour Custom is all Maple shell. I have had a Stage Custom for 4 years now. Nothing on the kit has broken and it is still as good as it was 4 years ago.
I can't comment on the sound as I've never used a Tour Custom, however it will sound good with some nice heads on it.
Hope this helps and feel free to ask more questions if you need to know more.

I think they're good drums for the money. Back in the early '90s, they were the standard issued drums for drummers in the US Navy fleet bands. They sounded good, looked good on stage and took one hell of a beating on the road. I would think the reissue of the same name should serve you just as well. Enjoy !
