So i made the decision to save get the AAX Axis pedals. Now i see that Tim Yeung and Derek Roddy use long boards. What would be the overall differennce between these models? Both in performance and durability?

Axis info here: http://www.axispercussion.com/longboards.html they say all their pedals can be converted to longboards. Don't forget the Ghost pedal, one of the "original" longboard direct drive pedals.

Get the long board, you won't regret it.

Performance: long board- more playing options, room to grow.
Durability- Same, same. Axis is a man's pedal, very tough, can take punishment, easy to work on.

Don't forget the Ghost pedal, one of the "original" long board direct drive pedals.

?? They don't make Ghost's anymore (do they?). You'd be buying a worn piece of old technology. Flat-spiral-torsion springs that vibrate when loaded, a sloppy foot board linkage that will only get sloppier, ditto with the rear/heel pin-hinge. Virtually non adjustable without modification. These things will surely make the Ghost unforgettable, or forgettable, depending how you look at it.

X2 on the longboards.

Tested both. Longboards for me.

I'm in the minority here, but I'm not a fan of the longboard. I've got both models, but don't use the LB that much. It's great if you have huge feet or do a lot of heel-toe bicycle pedaling, but I don't and I'm happy with the shortboards just fine.

Not saying the LB's are bad, many people definitely prefer them; just figured I'd voice a vote for the good ole 'regular' board.

They do take a beating, that's true. I wouldn't worry about it failing on you.

I don't hell-toe at all. For me, it serves no purpose. I just like the action get near the tails of the LB's...
