I'm just thinking about starting to drum, and I was wondering what any of you might recommend that I start with.

I've looked over practice pads and electric pads, maybe 1 or 2 to start with, but I cannot decide.

Any help is appreciated. :)

Congrats on finding yourself here!

I would start with the HQ realfeel drum pad. I use it I love it. Find the drum rudiments and practice those and practice correct technique. Drummerworld.com and vicfirth.com are great places to look for some examples of the greats showing good technique.

Is that what you're talking about?

And what about drum sticks, does it matter which ones I use? I have a pair of my friend's old Zildjian ones, I assumed they would be fine.

I know this doesn't count, but I've been playing the video game Rock Band for a couple months now and even though it isn't really like drumming, I think it helps with keeping different rhythms with my arms and legs.

Some general sticks are the Vic Firth SD1's. As for coordination, well that happens mainly when you jump on the kit. Now most people don't have the budget to buy a set of drums on a whim. I recommend getting lessons if you are committed to learning drum set.
