super low bass

i listen to chimaira, strapping young lad, lamb of god, and a whole bunch of other metal bands, and there is this sound they make right before break downs and stuff, and i watch chris adler live and he hits just one electric pad to trigger this ultra low bass sound effect, i have electric kits, but i can't find it on them. please help, cuz i want one really bad

as far as ive heard its a 808 bass drum sound that has been messed around a bit with the eq on roland e kits,dont quote me but thats what i heard.

depends, maybe you can download a super low bass drum sound into a midi file or something, I don't use E Kits so nothing I say has any validity. Would you be using that as your main bass sound? That'd sound like ass if you did double bass or anything quick...

definitely 808 bass drum, or if you have an SPD-S there is also a sound on there called "super low"... 2 different low / sub bass sounds, might not be exactly as what you heard on the recordings but should do the trick nicely, I prefer the 808 personally

Trying to replicate what you hear on a recording or in a "mega bucks arena show" can get costly. Sub-woofers and a lot of power usually required. My Roland SPD-S and 2 Roland PM-1's (60 watts each) that I run it through (all bought used) cost me roughly $1K altogether. If you really want some power, the Roland TDA700 cost about $900 and puts 300 watts out. You have to make sure the speakers you have can duplicate the "low" that you're going for. I can run my rig thru a Roland KC-100 (also 60 watts) keyboard amp and get nowhere the low end the PM-1's deliver.

i wouldn't use it as a main bass drum sound because if you did play even 8th notes it would sound muddy, and power is not a problem i have four cabs with fifteens and horns and 2 cabs with eighteen inch subs and two crown eight hundred watt amps. i will try the 808, if you want a good example of what sound i want, listen to chimaira pleasure in pain of their album resurrection, or any songs of that album.

I've heard metallers call it a 'bass drop' but I've never run across a sound specifically designed for it. As others have said, you can find an 808 or 909 bass sound on just about any Roland unit that could be tweaked to give you an extended bass dive-bomb type tone. And as previously mentioned, it takes MEGA watts and sub-woofage to translate live.
