Hello everyone, I think I have a small problem with some of the lugs of my Ludwig snare.
I rimshot ALOT, almost every hit I make is a rimshot, probably like alot fo drummers. But it seems to have it's side-effects (keeping in mind the awesome sound it produces though :D).
When I tune my drum, I get loud cracks from the lugs, similar to the sound you hear when opening a very old door, but then higher cracks, and harder.
Does this mean my lugs need re-oiling or something? Or do I need to replace the lugs?
Thanks in advance :D
PS: It's a new snare, not a vintage, I bought it like new in March 2007.

I know the noise your talking about.
I have the Hammered Chrome version, and one of it's lugs does the same thing haha!
That's the only drum that does it too! My BB's don't make that noise...must just be that type of metal shell?
You just need a SMALL amount of lube on the rod. Too much, and the rod willl back out too easy.
Also, since you rim-shot a lot (like me too haha!), I totally solved the "rod back out problem" on this drum with the Tight Screw brand rods.
You really only need them on the 1 or 2 rods that back out, but I put them on the whole top on that drum.
It totally resolved the problem, and the drum stays exactly where you tension it--even under slamming rim-shots.
They are pretty cheap too. It was only like $10 or something like that for a pack of 10 rods.
Cheap compared to the P.I.T.A. of re-tensioning a drum everytime the lug goes out!
Good luck with your (great) snare!

Thanks Karl, much appreciated =D. I've never heard of the Tight Screw rods before, but what I currently use for that problem are simple, thick, plastic lug locks (don't know if you can imagine what it looks like :D), and they get the job done quite well to.
But anyway thanks for you're help, I'll put some lube on the rods, if I find some :D.
Thanks
Greetz :)

Yep, I know those Lug Locks white square thingys....
They never really worked for me...they never seemed to touch the rim with it's edge to stop the rod from turning-which is the whole point haha!
Maybe just some that were made too short?...
No problems now with those Tight Screws though.
