A friend of mine said that he got a copy of mark mondesir's "the mystery unfolds". And he said that he uses only 7 rudiments on his playing...

Does anyone know which rudiments does he use on his playing?

If you don't, then can you tell me in your opinion which 7 rudiments would you choose to learn. Which 7 of them would be the most crucial to combine on the drumset....

Thanks! ;) and hope to hear from you soon! ;)

What does Joe Morello say? ( I think it's him) there are only three rudiments, singles doubles and flams. Everything else is combos of one or more of those three..Nice simple way of looking at it...

Yeah a lot of people say this and it really is quite true, take paradiddles, two singles followed by a double is all. But i would say it still helps to practice more than just these three rudiments. Practising these will make you better at other rudiments, but i find that embeding rudiments into your head really helps your creative playing for fills and such.

Yes, I agree. Just mentioning it the simplest form. I am not a rudiment head, but I like and regularly practice the Rudimental Ritual by Alan Dawson. That covers quite a bit and then You can come up with different ways to play it..It is a fun one..

I'd say there is 4 basic rudiments:

singles
doubles
flams
buzz

Rudimental Ritual, wow you're the first one I've seen to mention that here. Good study.

bball, there's definitely been talk about the ritual here, and it's an awesomely useful exercise IF your basics are good. I know one friend of mine who REALLY wanted to do the Dawson ritual but basically had terrible double strokes and wasted a lot of time. He needed to spend another year or two working on singles and double before starting that thing. Since singles and doubles are the basic motions of most rudiments, you should devote a lot of extra time to them. If you're singles and doubles are really together, than all the rest of the rudiments are about just a bit of sticking and time.

Yeah well that's true. Ya definitely have to have those things together before jumping into the ritual....Very good point
