This is Dame Evelyn Glennie. I saw the videos on this site of her, which led to find this.
Great points in this- listening with your whole body, tehnique vs. musicianship
It's about a half hour and worth every second

My God!! She is is so inspirational!
I've got to say that after watching that video about Evelyn I've added different perspectives to myself about sound.

She is so right about it! to turn our bodies into resonating chambers. That is something so.... man I can't get the right words to describe it. It's just FANTASTIC!! and that's not enough and it will never be enough to describe how wonderful was the message that Evelyn gave us through that video about sound!

GREAT VIDEO!!
Thank you for the message Evelyn Glennie! THANK YOU!!

Evelyn is a genius. She just confirms my belief that all great players have a better understanding of human nature than the rest. They've seen and felt something most of us cant/ or havent, yet.

A deaf person teaching the world how to listen. what could be more inspirational than that..

thanks for sharing.

She is definately one of the best percussionists in the world hands down, and very inspiring.

Does anyone know what mallets she was using for the last song.

What a tremendous find.

I feel exactly the same about rudiments as she describes feeling when she was at RAM. I will tirelessly dedicate myself to learning a piece of music, or a complete thing that utilises certain techniques, but I can't bring myself to sit down and practise something so purely athletic as a rudiments every single day. I've been looking on that as a weakness in myself...but perhaps it is more complex than that.

Thank you for posting this -- inspirational -- deaf or not. And not to be insensitive, but how is she "deaf"? She speaks so well; I don't understand. Is "deaf percussionist" a term of art I don't understand, havent heard and am asking a horribly stupid question?

Update--ok -- read her bio. Very interesting person. Thanks again for posting.

Wow... just wow.

I'm completely speechless. That was one of the most amazing 30 minutes ever.

I'm throwing my sticks away for 7 days too.

She is one of the world's greatest musicians... simply put... people like her, Keith Jarrett, Yo Yo Ma, Yehudi are just on another level... they are masters.

There is a movie documentary of her, in fact a SEVERAL of them produced by the BBC, throughout the 80's and 90's... a very good watch.

There's a very interesting one, in which she goes to Brazil, to inmerse herself in the world of Brazilian percussion... she is going in history along people like Franz Lizst, Paganini, Segovia, etc... as one of the few TRUE masters in history.

Funny that. My brother played in an orchestra with her when he was thirteen. I have it on video tape somewhere.

It's definitely not one of her Pro Mark models. Maybe innovative percussion?? Looks like she's taped them to avoid klickings. They look a bit weird.
