Sounds good man! Did you use the SPD-S on that track? Nice snare sound too.

Hey Jay!
You sound great on that track...In fact, the whole song sounds good. Your timing is perfect and you 16ths are smooth. I love the way you attacked that snare. Pow! Pow! Pow!
Maybe you should mic the drums!!!...LOL!
Very cool!

cheers for the compliments, I only get a few hours a week to play (even less since we started recording as I'm also the guy who clicks the buttons and moves the faders) so I tend to keep things simple so as to try and keep it solid, so it's great that you think it is, thank you.
I didn't have the spd-s when we recorded it so the loop on that is sequenced production work (which I used to do full time for a while) but now I have the spd-s I can re-create it live without having to program a full backing track to play along to, fun times ahead.
As for the snare sound, you can see the snare used in my kit thread, a pearl maple 14" x 6.5" free floater miced top and bottom with an almost equal balance between the two mics (marginally a little more to mic), a little compression boosted the attack but kept a nice full sound.

That sounds really good, Jay. Good choice of song too - I've always enjoyed that one. And I agree, your snare sounds pretty good. How's the kit coming along? Weren't you looking for a second kick so that you could split it into two sets?

Great song, well played, well sung, well engineered, great drum sound ( reminds me of Copeland ), snare kills, very sophisticated and controlled drumming that fits the music like a jigsaw piece....I'm running out of compliments, Jay.......

Cheers dude, still looking for that second bass drum, in no particular rush though, I think a reasonable set of mics or another crash first as we aren't in a gigging state at the moment. Snare needs a bit more of a tweek, or maybe just a new head as it is rather battered, no pun intended, still playing with mic positioning, so the sound may improve, may get worse, I'd go with the latter...

thank you very much, I really appreciate the engineering & sound comments, it's a totally different ball game playing with the sound from a "live" accoustic instrument instead of a heavilly processed electronic sound which is what I'm used to working with, but it's getting there slowly, the ears still work the same but it's a different route to get to the finish.
