Way back in the '70s, there was a drum set maker that featured tom toms that were shaped like a cone that curved 90 degrees, like the center tom in this ZZ Top video:

Can anybody tell me who they were? Thanks in advance.

Those would be North drums.

I think you're talking about the "North" brand. I don't know too much about them. but they often show up at the vintage drum shows and sometimes on eBay.

Welcome to the forums!
Here's a cool photo gallery I found by googling "north drums":

I remember them as Staccato drums. I'm not sure what, if any, connection there is between the two companies. Also, I found this website which appears to be selling new Staccato kits still.
www.staccato-art.co.uk
Just enter the site and click the "drums" tab on the left hand side of the main page.

Why the bent shells? Would that provide better projection?

That's my understanding of the rationale.

Christoph Schneider (The Drummer for the band Rammstein) Uses this type of drum in the music video "Amerika"

Not a bad price considering their condition and all.

And if you don't like them, you can use them in a cough drop commercial - LOL!
