So, I've got an old steel 10 lug snare shell laying around and I was considering Wood Hoops. I've never played on a snare with wood hoops and I was wondering how they sound.
Any Suggestions

I've got maple hoops on my snare and I love them, but it's a maple shell. I have no idea what wood hoops would sound like on a metal shell, but if you've got the $$$, it would at least be interesting to find out.
For my snare, the maple hoops give it a warmer, thicker sound. Steel snares usually have a pretty bright tone, so maybe the maple hoops would darken it up a bit?

Personally I just like wood hoops better overall on pretty much anything, but I think if you do a lot of rimshots they sound duller and not as cutting as a metal hoop.
I don't really know how wood would sound on a steel snare, but I think there was some steel/maple hoop snare that Ayotte and maybe Keplinger made, so maybe try looking for a review or sound files of that somewhere.
