The popes love child

I currently own a mismatch of stainless steel shelled drums, but am looking for something a little bit different in the bass drum department. I have a piccolo snare and a 14X10 floor tom, that do not match my 26X12 bass drum. I built the set around my bass drum, but it's not versatile enough, cost too much to experiment with $40 heads, and doesn't match the current trends well. Since the current trend seems to be shallow toms (Which I have) and deep bass drums, I'd like to have one that matches my kit. Finding a small deep stainless steel bass drum is either going to be very difficult or very expensive, so I thought of an interesting solution:

That is a 18x22 (Diameter X Depth) aluminum surdo, which I think would make a superb bass drum shell. If the single tension hardware didn't work out I could always drill some holes and use traditional hardware. At $209 it would be an expensive addition, but barely a fraction of the cost of a custom drum or trying to track down a rare vintage one. If anyone is interested in my old drum PM me, it's almost too big to ship effectively, which is why I wish I would originally bought one easier to get rid of. What do you guys think, good idea?
