Recording with mics (NOT triggers)

Yeah sorry this doesnt have anything to do with drum gear but more people use this forum than the other gear forums, so i might get more responses here.

Ok my band needs to start more new recordings, but our recorder is an 8 track that has only 2 inputs. So i can only use 2 mics. Is it best to just suspend both of them over the kit, or is there a better way to place them?

I'd love to use 4 but there's only 2 input =(

Get a small cheap mixer with at least 4 mic pres.

Mic the kick, snare and overhead mics at least, then go stereo out from your mixer into your 8 track. Try to get the best mix possible going out of the mixer.

I'd to get ass much tom sound in the over heads. Single ply heads are louder and dont muffle them.
