is there such hting as a signature snare, without the signature?
for example:
am i able to buy a snare, the same model as the chad smith signature, but not his signature edition, just the plain snare?
if that made sense.
thankyou for reading.

No, the Signature snare is what it is. It's a specially made snare released as that drummer's signature snare. You can find similar models possibly, but you won't find the exact same thing without the "signature".
Just curious, why does it matter what name is on the snare?

it didnt really matter what name was on it, i was just wondering if i could find the same snare, but without a signature, if it would be cheaper than the signature model.
like every pair of sticks you see are more expensive than regular sticks if they have the drummers name on them, like the vic firth dave weckl sticks are $12AUS more than the same pair without a signature.

i dont personally believe that there really IS a premium for "signature" snares or sticks. The fact is, i dont think most drummers care about a signature snare -- its more about is that the right snare for them. I have a chad smith, and it is a great snare for the $200 range -- regardless of whether chad helped design it or not.

If they're that bad, I'd try it before you buy it and then buy it online.

Buying gear in Australia is a whole world different than buying in the states.. Folks charge, (and get), a premium price for things.. After I moved here, I thought I would never buy anything new.. Instead, I just buy all of the big-ticket items from someone in the states and have it shipped down.. it's still WAY less expensive than buying locally.. I would really like to support the local guys, but I have a budget that I have to stick to.
Back on topic, I think it's been stated, but signature snares, ( and I would suppose anything else), would have to be different in some substantial way to make them "elite". That usually translates into higher production costs, etc.... It may be something as subtle as sound edge/snare bed design all the way up to major differences.. I have a Dave Weckl sig snare that has two strainers.. very cool concept and an excellent drum.

wow thats a little steep, where I buy my sticks signature lines are only 1 or 2 bucks more.
When buying drum gear never pay full price for anything, most places will do you a deal if you ask.

A great way to get around this is to build your own snare. If you find a signature snare you like but don't want to pay for a signature model, it's fairly simple to find out what it's made of, assess the specs and recreate it. It probably won't look exactly the same (lug style, stain, finish, etc.), but it can have all the characteristics that make the signature model sound the way it does and building is almost always cheaper than buying.
