What are good bass drum beaters for jazz?

The Vater Vintage Bomber is pretty great. It's a synthetic Lambswool over a cork beater. It's a four-on-the-floor BD feathering machine, especially with a single ply head.

Here's a copy of the 1936 Speed King patent, with what appears to be a felt beater. http://cgi.ebay.com/1936-Ludwig-Speed-King-Drum-Pedal-Patent-P05K-NTC_W0QQitemZ170179308830QQihZ007QQcategoryZ64434Q QssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem and here's a link to the "crazy pedal museum" http://home.hetnet.nl/~winnie-/gallery/pedals/pedals1.html showing different pedals and different beaters. I'd use whatever is most confortable for you. If your favorite pedal/beater combo is an Axis pedal with a wood beater, make it work. Here's some other "old pedals" http://www.xzyllardrums.com/MyPersonalCollection3.html and two have the big fluffy wool beaters similar to the Vater Vintage CBG refers to.
