quite the contrary, man! i find that their music exhibits quite a lack of emotion or soul....it's precise, demanding, and as a result, quite lifeless.

Don't get me wrong, I had my moments of obsession, but that faded after "Scenes from a Memory". They're resting on their laurels now, in my opinion....sure, they can all play some challenging stuff, but that doesn't make it quality music :-\ And as far as their musicianship - granted, they're all phenomenal, but once you look past the flurry of notes, you'll latch on to so many more inspired, creative, and gifted musicians!

Sorry? Soul and Dream Theater were mutually exclusive. That kind of attitude really isn't healthy at all!

For 'soul' I could recommend something along the lines of 'A Love Supreme' by John Coltrane, a commonly cited album; but THERE is a man exposing his soul. Today my soul has really been touched by some Paul Simon (specifically the song 'Diamonds on the Sole of her Shoe' - no pun intended) but to regard other music as 'obsolete' is not only very misguided, it's also insulting to every other kind of music out there.

I wasn't being entirely serious, anyone who can't say they agree with me in confidence can't understand what I'm saying at all. Learning to Live from 7:00 - 11:00 is so spirtually breathtaking that once you experience it to its full potential, your life will feel entirely different. It's far beyond any other feeling I have ever felt in my life, let alone felt in music. You havn't lived life until you have felt the deep emotion from this...not to offend any other type of music, maybe some other avid DT fans can help me explain the impossible.

I've been expanding my musical tastes lately. Usually I listen to stuff thats more like Hardcore like The Devil Wears Prada, Dance Gavin Dance (really good, I like their drummer a lot.) Circa Survive (all time favorite band) but I've been venturing into more like jazzy, indie, and Hardcore Punk like Minor Threat, and The Bad Brains. I also like to get a little dose of rap even though many people hate it.

Metal - Sabbath/Ozzy, Iron Maiden
Fusion - Return to Forever, Bill Cobham, any Chick Corea project, Mahavishnu
Prog - Bruford era Yes, Bruford era King Crimson, Jeff Beck, ELP, Jethro Tull, some Dream Theater
Alt. - NIN, Radiohead

That's all I can think of right now, but my top three are always Tool, Yes, and Zeppelin.

Well, you're pretty wrong here.
1. I don't have ipod.
2. I copied the list from my myspace page, where I mentioned all my favorite bands.
