We've recently been discussing how great the Trick throw-offs are, so does anyone have any input about how a Trick snare drum would do for jazz work? Not big band jazz, more like combo playing, restaurant playing, club venues with trios or quartets, etc.

I know Trick uses aluminum for its shells. Does aluminum have nice dark, dry qualities? I was leaning more towards copper and bronze...and I just saw a video via the Web where a Trick drum rep. said that they also use copper and brass, so I'm wondering if Trick now does copper snares?

Thanks for the advice. Just wondering if Trick snares would be a good way to go since everyone likes the hardware so much.

Just a general impression here but Trick builds very nice drums. I think shell materials are something we "overthink" way too much. I've used various wood combinations and metal shelled drums for jazz. Your choice of drum sizes, head selection, and tuning is probably more significant than the shell material. If you like their drums, go for it.

I have an aluminum snare but it's not a Trick, it's an old Gretsch with stop sign badge.
That thing is awesome. I like the sound of aluminum snares.
Like a lot of drummers I also have wooden snares and steel snares too, I think it's good to have snares made out of different materials.
