Okay... so I've seen this quite a few times, searched for it and nothing came up... so I was wondering about your guys' input on this topic.
When I see some guys really shredding, their hi-hat seems to be in a continuous motion... in like 8th notes or something... but two opposite ends swing upside down... I love this sound... but how is it achieved?
Once again, sorry if there's already a thread... couldn't find it :(
Thanks guys

Have the cymbals pretty wide apart and make sure the top cymbal is held loosely in the clutch. Start making continuous hi-hat splashes with your foot. Sometimes the motion will start by itself, but often you need to push it to motion with your hand or stick.

I've never heard of this or noticed this. Sounds cool. I'm going to try it.

Steve Smith shows how to do it on his US Beat DVD, if you have it Death. It may be on his DW page here. I tried and tried when I first started, but I can't get it to work for me. I think it may have something to do with his having the wavey type HH bottom? Maybe not, but I can't get it go no matter how loose I have the clutch. Anyway, fun to watch him use it in his playing. Steve always pivots his heel side to side and he says it aids in getting the movement going.
