My along waited Masterworks!

I put down 1000$ on these four months ago, took the snare home, and I just got the rest of em home tonight. I still have all of my cymbals, throne and the matching snare of this kit at where we jam so I just basically set it up where I thought I would be comfortable with it. The finish is Emerald over Japanese Tamo ash. Its an 8 ply 22x20 African mahogany BD The toms- 8x8 10x10 12x12 14x14 are all North American maple and Scandinavian birch. The 16x16 and 18x18 floor toms are African mahogany and maple. They are all 4ply shells with reinforcement rings. All of the hardware you see came with it and I still have 2 weighted booms and a snare stand in the corner. The snare in the pic is my 6.5x13 Yamaha Musashi. This kit is just absolutely amazing to look at .. And I cannot wait till I can actually play with it. I have finally acquired the kit of my dreams. Oh... haha dont mind the mess in my room.

Are they all the same shell material? The larger toms seem to have a different colour interior than the other drums. Once you get it all set up with cymbals and such it should be one fine set. The green is a little bright for my tastes but thats just me.

There is African Mahogany , North American Maple, Scandinavian birch, And I think Japanese red oak within the 8 drums here.

Thanks Mikei Sometimes you get a bad feeling about something you want .. like its just too good to be true. I really had faith in this kit.. I Worked my frikkin ass off (Alot of overtime) And I am glad I went with the deal too =)

Extremely sweet looking kit. People tend to forget that the Pearl Masterworks kits can be "as or more" custom than any custom shop offered drum kit. They certainly meet or beat, DW, Spaun, GMS and all the "usual" suspects at that game.

I'm glad the deal worked out for you and I commend you for the hard work and overtime you put in to pay these off. I see so many young drummers today that have killer, expensive equipment given to them and they just trash it. Something tells me you will not fall into this category. Congrats!

Wow!! That kit is stunning!! To have all the different types of woods must sound really interesting. I would love to hear some sound samples.

I wonder with all of with all of the different woods, would each shell need a different type of head to bring out the best characteristics of each wood. I see you have pinstripes on them now, maybe the oak needs a coated ambassador, maybe the maple needs a clear emperor.
I don't know, but just wondering.

I recommend getting a different color rug though to really show off that finish. Red, Blue,etc. anything but green.

Bet it sounds great, am curious about the head selection as well.

Thank you guys, for the kind words! The wait was very hard, Because Many other unexpected expenses came about.. So as much as I did pay in 4 months was hard to come up with. But I frikkin did it man! And.. I haven't even really been able to sit down and play with it yet, I haven't been able to get my stuff yet from where I practice. The heads are shot, and I absolutely hate pinstripes, but tuned to my ear it sounds much better than my export select with new heads. The kick is like nothing I have heard. Its like thunder. . The two floor toms do have much more of a rich bottem end than the other toms. For some reason all I could think of was a timpani. Maybe because they sound so Huge. That sure as hell is an ADAT! but thats another discussion. Hateplow- Your snare is my fav piece on this whole forum.. That Tama Exotix .. Damn! That finish would be my dream finish, Its so sweet. I am def going to get professional pics of my kit... But before it leaves my house I need to buy a nice set of hard cases.

The oak actually does have a coated ambassador. And I think it sounds awsome compared to an st dry and a g1 coated

I am very curious about how it will look when properly set up, with cymbals and all :). Be sure to post pics from every angle ;-).
It will be hard to position the toms with those square sizes I think...

I'll have to mime most others here, that is a totally happening finish on the drums.. They should sound excellent too.. the mahogany will give a richer/deeper voice to the larger toms...

So is this a kind of start to the reference series that pearl had going earlier than their release or is this how the masters have always been?

Yeah Santa was the Man this year! I really need heads on All of the toms.. so I think that or Good throne will be my next purchase. This is the series above the reference series.. Not "Masters" but "Masterworks" Its Pearl's custom line.

There is no Japanese Red Oak in any Pearl kits period. Not even Masterworks. Pearl has never used Oak of any type in the shell construction on any of their kits since the 60's.

Thats a great looking kit you have quite the unique finish. What do you think of having the mixed wood in the shells Does it effect the dynamics as far as you notice or just the tones?

Damn, I am indeed jealous! I miss my Pearls and always look for an old CZX kit on ebay, that and a monster Tama Imperialstar one like the guy for triumph. I bet your drums really sing. Just take care of them and wipe them down after every show and they will shine forever!
