This kit has been in the works for a long time, but finally completed all the veneer work and pairings. They are sealed up tight and curing, so the burst and color should go on Tuesday morning and it should start shaping up rather quickly after that. Olive Ash can be a real bugger to work with and needs plenty of sealer to get the finish on. Enjoy.

Insane drum porn. Very beaufiul shells with bold figuring. I wish my drums looked this good. I like a shiny finish as well. Specs please.

so the burst and color
The what?!?! Man, I really hate to see such beautiful wood covered up. They look beautiful as they are. What are they underneath the veneer? Keller?
Also, can I ask where you got the veneer in those sizes? When I build my kit, which is still a ways away, I'd like to put a sexy walnut burl veneer on it.

Thanks everyone, I love this wood. It has great character no matter where you look at it. Here are a couple shots of the floor tom mocked up with it's hardware (customers choice of course) and a bad photo of the burst finish that the set will get. The color is actually a bit lighter than in the picture and you can really see the figuring clearly. It's just a very mild toner burst finish. It will also be in a high gloss lacquer. The kit is a three piece with a 15 X 22 Kick, 8 x 12 tom and a 13 x 14 floor tom. They are 9 ply maple custom made.
Velimor: You can find (on occasion), online veneer sources that have larger sheets, but for the most part, it's better to go directly to the source, the mills. You can check for local mills in your area, will save you on shipping and potential mishaps with the veneer. By the way, it's hard to find large sheets of walnut burl and when you do, it's expensive. I used it once before and IIRC, it was $10.50 a sqft.

That is absolutely stunning. Raven, it's gratifying that there are woodworking artists like you who add so much beauty to our instruments. I'm in awe.

Thank you kind Sir. The Spirit Series is all about the wood. They come in Maple or Birch as the core of the shell, with an outer ply of many different types of exotic woods. I personaly love this Olive Ash swirl. The burl isn't bad, but I like this just a touch better. I will also be getting the chance to upgrade my son's 5 pc kit and I am doing his in waterfall Bubinga, and that veneer for the project just arrived a couple days ago. It's very pretty, now he just has to decide what finish and hardware he wants...LOL.

Very nice looking kit. That's classy...now you just need some offset tube lugs...I know how much you love your tube lugs.
