Hi there,

after seeing Jojo Mayer at a clinic here in Germany I decided to get back to my electronic roots. Here are the first steps ;)

Thanks a lot! After watching it again I think it is really a little overdone. The direction isn't clear as well. But as I said Jojo made me reconsider my playing and now I am in search of my new style :-)

There ist no "recording". It is the internal cam mic. It makes a really good sound because of its natural compression. Billy Ward told me that he uses those little mics for his own recordings too.

Merry Christmas!

Great stuff Max! I've been getting more interested in this type of thing lately because I think there are some cool possibilities in combining it with jazz (form, instrumentation, harmony, etc.). Have you dabbled in anything like that?

Keep it up!

Thanks KC! No, but I am looking for people who want to experiment with it. Lately I talked to some DJs and they were interested. Unfortunately I am quite unexperienced in playing Jazz but I love the feel.

And you are right, I often noticed a relation between Jazz and those "new" forms of hybrid playing.People like Zach Danziger or Jojo Mayer come from a jazz backround. I think it is the swung feel and complex coordination required for playing especially the fast styles of jungle and breakbeats.

Tight playing! Sounded great, all your drum and cymbal sounds are perfect for that electronic but acoustic sound. I especially have to say the hi-hats, they really sound suberb. Your filling really blew me away, especially on the shuffle feel. Overall I'm totally impressed with this video. Yeah! Keep it up!

EDIT: I noticed... So you're that guy I saw on the forums with the SQ2 set and Brady Snares. No wonder the drums sounded so good!

Thanks again! Jojo is really an inspiration, musically and personally!

The hats are 13" HHX Evos on the left and a Portnoy Max Stax Mid 10" on the right which I mounted inversed (china as bottom, splash as top) on a X-hat.

The main snare is a 14x5 Wahan Stainless Stell and the side snare is a Sonor Artist Earth 13x5.

Great drumming, good speed and great job keeping a steady tempo. I like the boom of your bassdrum!
