I slightly impulsively bought this ride on eBay... used early 80's PAiSTe 20" 505 ride. I've heard a lot of good things about these discontinued cymbals. The pictures look beautiful but unfortunately this are just the teaser pics from the eBay page. If I'm lucky it can ship before Christmas (it's coming from Winnipeg, CA, which luckily is near Canada's border and not too far from the Midwest, where's it's gonna ship to).
Hopefully it lives up the seller's description, since I've been looking for a sweet-sounding ride that's pretty bright and has a fantastic crash, a la 2002. Now if I only I could get some red label 2002s to match the green label for Christmas colors... :-)

I have one of those in the "Heavy" style, I'm about to trade it to Jamie for a Saluda, just wasn't my style, but definitely a great cymbal for heavy music, very crashable too.

I still own a heavy 22" 505 ride. I had thought of getting rid of it after I picked up a 22" K custom, but I decided to hang onto it. It's faithfully served me for over 20 years and it's so different than the Zildjian that I just can't see a reason to get rid of it.

Nice! 505s are quality cymbals. If I can ever get over my fear of ebay, I'd trawl for cymbals like these. Over the years, Paiste's made some great stuff that has been priced and marketed as mid-level.
I think it'd be cool to assemble a Bonham setup, but using 505s instead of 2002s. A couple of 505 Mediums and the 15" 505 SoundEdge Hats. Does anyone know if they ever made a 24" 505 Ride?

I don't know but I did see some 505 sound edge hats on eBay as well, but I wasn't too interested.
It's gonna be pretty sweet when this thing comes. I intend to emulate the sounds of Zeppelin and Grand Funk.

505's are an interesting anomaly. Regarded at the time as a 'cheaper' range of Paiste but considered amongst many as one of their finest ranges. Definitely an excellent buy.

Very nice love the green! Looks like the same hammering as the 2002 range. Similar lathe marks too. A little wider on the 505 maybe. B8 I'm guessing? Great buy!

Yep, the famous CuSn8 "2oo2' bronze. And actually you got it exactly as the seller said, very similar in form to 2oo2s but with wider lathing. And I'm digging the green labels too.

Yeah, we`ve got a 20" 505 Medium Ride at school...nice solid cymbal with a pretty cool crash sound. Nice wash, too.
Good buy!

I have the 22" version of that cymbal and can't find anything I like better as a main ride.
I would love to eventually own the 20" too, but they're getting really hard to find.

I had a set of 505 hats, years back and they sounded great. Don't know what I ever did with them. Congrats on the ride.

Bump! I just got home today from my holiday trip. The box was at the house, so I opened her up, and man, this cymbal looks beautiful in person. It has that really, nice clean shimmering look from the style of hammering from the 2002s. Pics-

Ludwig Accent Drums
22x16 kick, 12x9 rack, 16x16 floor, 14x5.5 snare
Paiste & Sabian cymbals
14" HH Bright Hi-Hats
18" AAXplosion Crash
10" XS20 Splash
20" 505 Ride
20" Traditionals Ride
As for the sound of the new pie, I have to say I couldn't be happier. Rarely do I ever find something for the kit that does exactly what I want it to, but the ride sounds EXACTLY like I imagined it, and I'm in love with the sound. I am too happy with what I got out of this buy, and I can definitely say I have solidified my obsession with Paiste.
