When he was with Herbie Hancock in the 70s he was real funky. I still aspire to the beat juggling he did on "Actual Proof" and I doubt it will ever be recreated again.
I haven't heard much of his more modern stuff, so I can't really say if it's good or not.
Any links to movies or sound files showing his playing today is appreciated!

I just took a lesson off of Mike on Wednesday. He is an amazing player and a gifted teacher. He has a way of making you feel at home in a lesson while loading you up with stuff to practice. Very friendly and encouraging.
He told me he'd be on the road for about a month, doing gigs, clinics, and private lessons. If he comes to your town, I highly recommend talking a lesson off of him. It's well worth the money.

He's based in New York City. I took a lesson with him in Richmond, VA while he was on tour.

I'm in shock over the amount of posts on this thread, only 4 at this time. That's proof to how Mike is a SEVERELY under-rated drummer. He's one of my favourites of all time.
I'd KILL KILL KILL (yes, 3 times) for a lesson with Mike. He'll never come to my area... :(

So did he play for you at all, Jeff? If so, how amazing is his right foot? I'd love to hear more about your lesson.

Mike Clark is incredible. He's a linear groove master. Thrust is one of my favorite fusion albums of all time mostly because of Mike Clark.

Mike Clark's playing on Thrust, in 1973!!, will stand the test of time as some of the funkiest drumming ever. I've been into that album for...well...35 years. I just managed to transcribe...I think!...the intro fill for Spank a Lee. It's on my site....

I'm missing the stick click (stick on rim) which I believe is on beat "3".
What can I say about this album. It's a must. Mike was just at Musicians Institute and I knew he'd mention a few funk drummers..which he did.
Clyde Stubblefield
Bernard Purdie.
Both of these drummers are a must to study.
I'm off to Cuba tomorrow. Back July 4th!
Happy groovin'!
Chuck
