Welcome to the club. I've been playing a 4 piece pretty much exclusively for the last 3 years or so and I love it.

ive seen this said by some one else on the forum..but he said " with all the drums, i felt like i had to do more fills...so with less, i have to be more creative" and i thought..thats very true...so i changed it and loved it...and it looks better i think! thanks for the reply fourstring!

I felt the same way. With more drums I felt like I had to use them. Sometimes I do get an urge for a 3rd tom, but it passes fairly quickly once I actually have one.
Funny though, I'm still not very creative with less :D

I always like to play a 4 piece set-up really. This was odd 2 years ago, when I bought a 6 piece kit instead. Another odd thing is that I learned to play on a 12,13,16 5 piece kit. For most of my jazz playing I really don't like to use but my 12,16 anyway. However, for Latin or rock stuff I like having the 4 toms since I'm only used to 2 or 3. I'm hoping to buy a second travel kit (probably one of those Gretsch Catalina club kits) which is just a 4 piece and a lot smaller drums than I'm used to. Honestly though I really want a big kit with bigger drums like 13,16,18 toms but this just isn't practical for me though. I'm a big band jazz fan and love the sound of the big old drums though but hauling my 22x18 6 piece kit is enough trouble. I suppose what would be cool would be a 20x14, 12x8, 14x14, 16x16 kit.

Beeeayootiful bro, I just 'converted' my 2nd rack tom into my ride cymbal [joys of a Roland kit!!] and now have 4 'cymbals' [3 actual cymbals, 1 drum pad] and have everything set the same as yours....wish I had the acoustic version tho!!

i think a electric kit would be nice for those late night urges...but you just cant beat an acoustic kit!
