I dont want to put a downer on this thread, those are great drums. But really what's the difference between them and another 'custom' company's drums?

What have we got here? Keller shells(?), Tube lugs and a stain finish. These options are offered by a ton of other guys, was there any particular reason why you chose Epiarch?

I presume the edge cutting is the only really personal thing when it comes down to it. I dont want to piss anyone off, I just don't see why these less known companies aren't making an original image for themselves.

agreed with top cat. We're over charging for drums looks these days as well. Im not here to say anything badm hey, I would LOVE to have a custom kit, but drum shells are drum shells. Yes, alot of custom companies do offer pretty much the same things. Mind you, sjc has some different stuff, like the "butcher hoops". Any wayz, in all honesty, WHAT A KIT!

Yes.. they're keller shells. However, Jesse has some really cool ideas for how he does his edges that makes his stuff stand out. On top of that his finishes are great, his attention to detail amazing, and he has excellent customer service.

When I've got guys that ask me about full kits I refer them to him because I KNOW they will be happy in the end. Also, he doesn't over charge for his kits. (SJC on the other hand is ridiculous)

Epiarch does not over charge at all. Very reasonable prices and excellent customer service. That's what first turned me on to them. Jesse is amazing and easy to work with. And after seeing so many people buying kits from him on the pearl forums, I had to get one. Quality stuff.

The difference i find with epiarch is that they are much cheaper than any other custom company. That and you can go on the pearl forums and talk to him one on one. Not many other custom companies have that.

Also...as for them making an original image for themselves...they make kits that people order. You see epiarch and SJC and OCDP making all these "emo" kits because thats what people order. You can order regular sized drums as well.

That is unreal. Questions like "What is the emo view on gender?" Like emo has a policy that needs to be adheared to. I can't believe I'm actually using the word emo as if it is This Thing. Can you imagine some mohawked punk in 1979 asking his mate, "So Roger, what is the punk view then on polishing your shoes?"

Just a quick look at the user names on that site gives you an indication of how hard they're trying to be so sad and so different. But they're all just white, middle-class kids in good schools with no worries about food and shelter and safety. These kids need a serious dose of reality. Send them here to SA after high school. I'll show them what the real world entails.

And I do apologise for steering away from the real topic here, which is your absolutely gorgeous Epiarch kit. I think any questions about whether companies like Epiarch and Phattie etc. should have a place in the market and whether they can charge what they do will very swiftly be answered once you try doing that yourself. And I don't just mean building a kit. I mean building a kit that looks and sounds like this one. Nice drums, bud.

TopCat has a good point. My kit was made an obscure custom drum shop that nobody knows about. But the reason I went with them is because I wanted a custom kit and they're right down the road from me so it was just convenient. These days there's pretty much a custom drum maker in every major city. It's all the same.
