Surprise, surprise! Me and the bass player were noodling around in our rehearsal studio, and in walks Ron Johnson ( awesome blues guitar player, friend of the guitar player ).

A little worse for wear from the night before,he just picked up the guitar and started playing (clean, no pedals). Without exchanging a word.. and we just kinda went along for the ride, though its not quite our thing...

Its all over the place, but was great fun..

Its recorded with 1 MXL 990 microphone ('.. a miracle in itself )

vintage Tama Imperial stars, 24", 15", 12", Yamaha piccolo brass snare, Sabian AAxs, Ibanez 6 string Bass, J.D. Tyler custom guitar..

A a little Bluesy, but a little woozy, here it is:

EDIT- I've added the rest of the afternoon in which we did another piece we call:

No fuel

For one mic, thats pretty good quality man!
As for the jam, it sounds cool. You guys haven't thought about starting an oz noy type band have you?
The brass snare sounds nice too.

Isnt Oz Noy cool? I love that stuff, and Carlock's playing... very funky.. Na this was a jam along where no one was quite sure what was going on.. Hmmm, Oz Noy type of band ,, now thats a thought.. what do you think of Wayne Krantz? Have you heard him?

Yeah, Oz Noy is cool. Haha, I'm not really sure but oz noy sounds like a bit of a jam band sometimes. Might be a cool idea, Oz Noy with a bit of a blues influence...even though its not quite your thing, you and the bassist could be the funk part of it. What are you mostly into?
Heard of him I think, but no, I havent heard me. Enlighten me?

You're right about the jam band bit. Wayne Karantz is a an improvisational guitarist in the same kind of head-space. He plays a lot with Keith Carlock too. Check him out on the youtube or his website.. pretty cool. Like more musical than Oz., perhaps

Me, I'm into everything, no loyalties, love music period ( no-grindcore though )! Love playing jazz-funk, but we dont have the bassist for the part.

Sorry, Gusty, I spelt his name wrong. Its Krantz

p.s. the bass player is fine, he just a more harmonic 6 string player.. doesnt really work for for funk..

Quality stuff. =)
Very funky...the guitar sounds nice and some kind of dirty...
Ha, seriously reminds me a lot of OzNoy!

You used a piccolo...a shallow 14"? Sounds smaller though.

Thanks Karl, I think the guitarist will be quite chuffed to hear that he is being compared to Oz Noy!

The piccolo is a Yamaha Brass shell 14"x31/2. It was made in the late 80s and a very very popular model, played by many drummers still. I'm lucky to own one..

All's well here on the ol' homestead. Thanks for asking.

I feel that you are fortunate to have such good musicians to work with, even if it's jamming. Being able to share your talent and ideas with others is a wonderful thing. I hope that you will be able to share more of your playing with us. So far your playing has be very solid. I enjoy listening to you.

Thanks....

As I said...like Oz Noy. He must be a fan!!
I love the "dirty" sound...though I`d prefer to hear a big trashy crash or ride instead of a splash...but that is just a personal kind of thing.

Sounds good!

Hey,

Nice and groovy. Well played.

The group as a whole could have a deeper pocket though. I feel as the groove is not realising its full potential. There's a bit of pulling going on between the instruments as if the time is felt a bit differently between players. I'm talking micro level here of course.

Cheers

Peter, your comments are always valuable to me, and you, as always, are right.
This Bass player is always on top of the beat. Hes just that kind of character.. very intense and hyper.. very unlike a bass player : ) who are mostly chilled out laid back guys..Too many notes too, in my opinion. were hoping to put down some stuff the right crew soon..

My playings a bit rusty too. Am really getting back with the band thing after a bit of a break..

loading your track at the moment.. ( its taking forever.. )

You know what they say: "Rust never sleeps!"

I can listen to your playing here all night long! (That's how long it took Nergretty's vid to load!...LOL) Aydee, you have a very pro sound and feel. You mesh well with the other players. Btw, I liked what the bass player did. Your timing was with the bass player more so than the guitarist, but that's OK. I consider the drums/bass relationship more important in most cases.

Very cool, indeed!

Thanks, RR for your steady support and encouragement. Yeah, the bass player is a 6 string player who is more into the higher register melodic and chordal/harmonic rather than a deep funk rock pocket. That comes more naturally to him.

I'll be posting a bunch of stuff soon with different players to get feedback, so what this space.

My best to the horses (btw- I tried polo for the first time in my life yesterday and I made contact with the ball..... yaaaaa )
