I'll be there the whole time (Wednesday too.) For sure I'm doing an autograph session at Ludwig on Friday & Saturday, and I'll be visiting D'addario (Evans), Sabian, Dunnett, Trick, Vic Firth or Factory Metal Percussion throughout the show, and generally wandering Hall D (or enjoying some peace & quiet downstairs in E!)

I fly in Thursday and may stop into the show that afternoon, but Friday and Saturday I will be there all day.

Hi, all
I will be in the house, at Zildjian Booth signing, and at the Regal Tip booth signing. Just wandering as well, so stop me if you see me and say "yo!". I will be bringing my 11 year old daughter this year, here first plane ride and to see the sights. I have a session in LA while I'm there, so she'll get a chance to hang and check things out!
See ya there!

Suppose we agree on a day, time, & location, and say hi to each other?
I'm there the whole time and only have obligations Fri & Sat from 1-2pm.
There are some easy-to-find landmarks in Hall D, but it's also the noisiest. Any other Hall - even the lobby - might be cool. The quieter and less congested, the better, as far as I'm concerned!

Jon - Dale and I are organizing a dinner Friday night for those non-DS forum folks who would like a venue to chow, drink, a schmooze. We would be honored if you would attend.
That goes for everyone else as well... if you want in on an "all-forums" dinner Friday night, shoot me a PM

OK gang, let's brainstorm here for a meeting place at the convention center. I'd rather not wait until we get there to decide only because some of us might not have access to the forum once we get there. I usually hang out with Boo at the WFD booth but they aren't going to be there this year. Bermuda suggested somewhere in the lobby, which is about a quarter of a mile long as I recall. Any thoughts on that? What about in the interior patio? Does everyone want to meet on Thursday at some time? Or are there enough of us that won't be there the first day that we should wait until Friday or Saturday?
Andy, that's a great idea for dinner Friday night. Yamaha Groove Night is Saturday night but I don't know yet if there is going to be an industry show on Friday night. I was considering driving up to Studio City Friday night to see Chad Wakerman at the Baked Potato.
I will have internet access all weekend on my laptop, by the way. In case anyone needs to check their email or whatever while we're there just let me know. It beats paying for it at the Internet café, right?

I say let's try to meet at the ZIldjian booth around 2 on Friday or Saturday. I'll find out when the signings will be, but thats about the right time. Either day would be good, as I will make it their to hang.
How's that?

In general, the sponsored events in the evenings are invitation-only (and they're a zoo as well) so everyone may not be able to get in, and some may not want to!
And the major company autograph sessions are nuts, probably the worst time to try and be sociable.
I still like a less hectic scenario, and during show hours. Hall C is considerably quieter than Hall D and Mapex, Evans & Tama are there. Yamaha is at the Marriott and much quieter than the rest of the show. And for complete silence, level 2 above the lobby is uncongested (Fender, Taylor, etc are up there) and far from the noise.
Just some thoughts.

I cooked up a NAMM FAQ (http://www.bermudaschwartz.com/namm) a few years ago to help with that and other info.
In a nutshell, NAMM is not open to the public... of course that hasn't prevented a lot of the public from getting in anyway. You'd have to know someone who has an extra badge (which is becoming harder to get lately) or is willing to part with theirs so you can get in.

if they want it to not be open for the general public and keep people from getting in who are not conducting any business, why do they offer things like this?

So that the buyers can get a signed photo (or head or stick etc) for their store's wall. Likewise, the aftershow events are intended as entertainment for the buyers after a long day walking around the show.
Obviously, NAMM knows that a ton of public attendees are there on borrowed badges, which they're trying to curtail (with poor results.) But the 'perks' are not aimed at the public - they're for the legit attendees.

...and so that a semi-legitimate member of the the press can cover the walls of his music room with signed skins (I have Bermuda right next to Steve Gadd!).

I really, really, REALLY wanted to go. I asked loads of people for hints on how to get a pass and make it happen. I got no response. None. Talk about feeling unloved! So I tacked a few days onto my Xmas vacation to spend with my hubby in a cottage by the ocean in Oregon.
And the money I would've spent on NAMM will buy a new furnace before the old one blows up my house.

Guess I'd better ask my local drum shop for a spare badge next time.. I visit frequently enough for them to know me by face/name.

So we have the suggestion for meeting at the Zildjian booth on either Friday or Saturday at 2:00 pm. A good thing about that would be getting a group photo with not only Pat Petrillo, Bermuda, and Bernhard, but probably also some of the Zildjian honchos like John DeChristopher and Paul Francis.
If this sounds good to everyone, please chime in here. If one day or the other is better please say so. We'll decide based on everyone's input here.

I think Ludwig is doing group photos in one of the hotels, and that could also change things for me at the last minute. :(

I am sorry to say, with badge in hand, that my plans have drastically changed. The current retail climate has required me to keep a reduced staff, thereby, requiring me to stay put here in Rocklin (historically known as Rockland, I love that name) and man the store with my reduced staff. We call that WIT (whatever it takes).
My pilgrimage with Juan, Jim and Ray will have to wait until next year.
I will, regretfully, miss seeing DogBreath and anybody else from DW who had planned to meet. My loss! Cheers to all who plan to attend and meet.
