In late January i posted pics of my brand new Mapex M Birch kit. I ordered the fusionease setup in transparent red.

It's honestly the most wonderful ride i have ever played.

Well, I have two bands...with one band...it started out as a prog metal band somewhat like dream theater, but has softened up a bit as of late. So i guess it would be prog rock mixed with experimental and ambient..

My other band is also prog but they're more metal...so needless to say, lots of cymbals and drums is in my blood.

But both of my bands include many different styles of drumming and just music in general so i wanted to have as wide a spectrum as possible in my kit.

This is the setup that i have put the most thought into and it has payed off because it's my most comfortable yet. If i were to take out all the drums and leave just a 4 piece...it would be in the exact setup of the 12/16/22. After that, everything was just added on where i found it to be the most comfortable and ergonomic.

I'm still waiting on an 18" floor tom that will go behind my 16 like a regular 2 up 2 down setup.

How do you like that snare? I just got a Dominion 13 x 7 maple snare for my Mapex Pro-M kit at the weekend and I think its one of the nicest snares I've ever heard. Compliments the mapex kit very nicely.

I got the coated pins because it was the only 6" head the store had at the time and i wanted them all to match so i got those. I'm gonna try out some G2's next time.

The DDrum is an amazing snare...It has such a wide tuning range. Goes from nice crack and pop to low, throaty crack with tons of body and ring. It's amazing.

roto toms are so much fun to play around with, those 5000's are pretty damn snazzy i must say.

I set up my toms the same way as you but I'm having trouble using a new gibraltar v-rack to get the toms in the same position as they would be with a stand. I see you use a combination of the rack and stands.

Did you have a problem with getting the drums just the way you wanted them with a rack also?

That UFIP ride sounds nice but for metal it would seem something with a little more ping in it would be called for.

Great job on that 2nd file by the way, sounded nice.

i've actually gigged this kit many times.

The rack side of the kit takes about 5 minutes for me to set up from bags to setup...

The left takes a little longer because of all the clamps off the stand, but i'll be getting another rack to solve that.

to Plutopowered: I didn't have much of a problem because thats what i had in mind the most when mounting them...except for the 8" tom. I knew i wanted the 10 and 12 offset and a 14 to the side so i put the toms on the rack and placed that side of the rack to where i wanted it...i then put the cymbals where i wanted them and moved the other side to asjust the distance of it all from me.

I'm on another forum and there is a member who also has this tom setup with a V-rack...I'll see if i can PM you some pictures.

That's the cool thing about using a rack, everything is set in place and all you have to do is put drums and cymbals up. I have my rack together in about 2 minutes. It all just locks together.

When I was gigging every weekend it would take me less that 15 minutes to be completely set up and ready to go, so I can see enemytopublic2 having his set up in that amount of time. After you do it a couple of times you figure out a systematic way of setting up and tearing down so you can do it quickly.

Also with a rack, for me, it's as easy to use all my drums up as it would be to set a 4 pc up because the rack takes the same amount of space.

i'm likin' the setup. very interesting with the left tom AND the Roto Toms. don't see them too often anymore. i have an 8-10-12 setup and haven't used them in years.

yeah i started off setting up the roto toms just to give the kit a "huge" factor...but i really ended up loving them. I hadn't used them for a while and was looking at all my gear and started thinking.

How do you transport your racks? Also, do you take the feet off of the rack stands or do you keep them on?

Well if you look at my pictures, i have one rack, and instead of 2 legs it has a leg and the other side is attached to the stand via a clamp. It makes transportation easier because then i can just take the leg off, take the curved bar out of the clamp and just toss it in the back of the car.
