Myrtle Steam Bent with Maple Re-Rings
45 Degree with Round-Over Cut Bearing Edge
Satin Finish
Chrome Tube Lugs
2.3mm Triple Flanged Hoops
Clear Nickleworks Strainer

It will probably be a few weeks or so. Can't wait!

This all being said, the 1967 Acrolite that he refinished that I got from him (in the Classifieds thread) and my 6.5x14 Gretsch Hammered Black Chrome Steel Snare are up for sale (although I'm holding off on selling the Gretsch so I'm not snare-less). If anyone is interested let me know!

I'll post updates and of course pics with mp3's once it's done.

I love it! I am guessing it is a VC shell? If it is you will without a doubt love it! I want a steam bent snare sooooo bad. I wish i would have got one of these when i had the chance!

Why are you guessing it's a factory second? That's a shell that's not up to par right?

This is Maple 7 x 14 with reinforcement rings, Satin finish, and just gorgeous grain.

VC did a deal on some "factory seconds" over the past week.... thus the deal. VC factory seconds are like most peoples top notch. They'll consider them seconds if they are a different height that originally spec'd, there's a tiny scratch, etc. No worries... I've looked over all the shells I got and there's nothing wrong with them. There was a tiny line on yours that sanded right out.

Tomorrrow I'll be busy putting the edges on yours and I've got to sand down the finish on ole Gruntersdads while I'm at it. =)

Vaughncraft is probably THE premier steambent shell builder in this hemisphere.... They just recently finished doing the shells for Pork Pie's anniversary snare which I believe will be a Rosewood 14x7.. they also do shells for most other custom drum companies and some of the big players as well.

Man, I would have been all over those VC shells had it not been for xmas season. It really killed me to see everyone at Ghostnote gobbling those bad boys up. You think they have any left?

As of yesterday.. they had just a few left. No more exotic species but some maples, birch, beech, etc. There's one Alder left which is a very under appreciated wood that sounds AMAZING.

From what I understand it was more VC trying to clean up their shop not really anything wrong with them, guaranteed to be one hell of a good snare drum!

Wow...although I love sparkle finishes, especially champagne and silver sparkle I`d never wrap this beauty.

I think wrapping a wood with a grain like that is an arrestable offense :)

The finish is beautiful, but it's as beautiful as other drums.

It's very rare to see an alternative wood construction drum wrapped. I'd like to see staves, steambents, blocks and solid shells wrapped. Once you get over the sex appeal of the unusual construction method, there's no reason why you couldn't give it a good wrap.

Obviously, I'm not talking about gorgeously figured bubingas or stave or block kits that show off their construction. Wrapping one of Unix's chessboards, for example, would be a criminal offense.

I guess that gets to the question: Why would anyone ever wrap or paint any drums? I think natural wood always looks better than a wrap, but I've seen some really nice wraps.

If solid-shell ironwoods, staves, single-plys and blocks were as common as composite wood ply drums, I'm sure someone would order a wrapped set eventually. But as it stands now, whole wood construction seems so exotic and unusual that it would seen awful to wrap them.

Wraps are classy and they're more durable than exposed wood. I love both but usually my preference goes towards a nice classic wrap only because I'm clumsy. I tend to ding unwrapped drums just by looking at them.

It's "finished". You'll notice the color got a bit darker. Tim says that the pics don't do it justice. His wife even asked him why he didn't keep it for himself *lol* He is sanding it tonight and then drilling. Assembly depends on when the hardware he ordered shows up.
