Hello everyone :)

Well my friend and I are recording our 3-track EP this week, and we decided to use my house for the drums, which turned out to be an EXCELLENT call by our engineer/producer, because the sound is just flawless...absolutely full of life and thick punchy tone.. Our style of music is similar to that of bands like Porcupine Tree and Opeth (all clean vocals), but we add a few other elements including ambient music (akin to Asche and Spencer's soundtrack work), and some jazz-fusion (think 1977 Return to Forever).

i'll have sound samples and videos up within the week as we flesh out the songs, but until then, here's a feast for the eyes ;-)

This is the first time i've recorded in a studio setting, and i've been playing just over a year now. (i'm 22)

here's an interesting pic of the rack setup - normally this all resides at the studio we'll be doing the rest of the tracking at...

my new Pearl 2000-BR throne! this thing has made a night and day difference in the steadiness and power of my footwork, just in the few days i've used it. My old Sonor throne wobbled like crazy, and was constantly getting loose...

here are the mics we used :

Overheads - Neumann KM-183
Ambient Room - AudioTechnica AT3031 (x2)
Hi-Hats - Neumann KM-184
Snare Top/Bottom - Audix i5/ Shure SM57
Toms - SM57/Sennheiser MD421
Kick - Shure Beta52A/ SM57
Side Snare - SM57

thanks for checking this out :) i feel like a proud parent, seeing all those cables and mics everywhere.... i'll be sure to get some sound clips very soon!!

Yeah, but you should hear his playing. Amazing chops even for someone who's been playing for a decade or more. Check out his audio clips.

Ahhhhh...

Brings back memories of when my last band recorded in a house. So much fun and we also got a great recording out of it.

Your setup looks great, by the way. I love the cymbals, too. Good stuff!

also, what K ride is that?

Thanks drummers :) I especially appreciate your compliment, Garvin! i don't think i'm anywhere near where i need to be, but i'm very pleased with our drum tracks so far... we're in the actual studio now, tracking 12-string guitar and electric... should have some samples within a week or so

haha thanks man! i looked around, so far i haven't shattered any glass or china! the throne is PERFECT! we're actually using it to track guitars, and everyone says it's very comfortable - the back rest makes all the difference in the world. Since i sit so much more solidly now, it's really helped with my playing and confidence..

Thanks very much :) the ride is a 20" K Custom brilliant - it ended up sounding AMAZING on the overheads...the bell cuts through very nicely!

Awesome setup, I bet they sound as good as they look. Like the others, I am really looking forward to some sound clips.

Also, seeing your watch laying on the floor (2nd pic) makes me laugh. I can't play with a watch on & can't tell you how many I've lost for that reason. I've often wondered how many drummers do that very thing....

AMAZING!
Dude that is one killer set up. I love the choice of Zildjian cymbals! What kind of crashes do you have? And what brand/model is that china?
All of that in "just over a year"!! You're one lucky guy.
Again, nice set up.
